PITTS, Verlin Franklin (1969 - 2007)

Verlin Franklin "Hooch" Pitts, 37, Bronaugh, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 3, 1969, in Nevada. Mo., to Harry Franklin Pitts and Shirley Ann Orr Pitts. Hooch grew up in Bronaugh and graduated from Bronaugh High School, in 1988. He was employed by Rickett's Grain for more than 10 years. He worked for Cullison Ground Works and was currently self-employed in backhoe and dozer work. Survivors include his parents, Harry and Shirley Pitts, of the home; paternal grandmother, Lillie Mac Pitts, Bronaugh, Mo., several aunts, uncles, cousins, and his girl friend, Kim Caldwell, of Golden City, Mo. He was preceded in death by one brother, Chester Dewey "Boo" Pitts, and grandfather, Chester Franklin Pitts. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Bob Dickey officiating. Interment will follow in Worsley Cemetery, Bronaugh. Friends may call 12 p.m., Saturday and until the hour of service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Bronaugh Fire Department in care of Ferry Funeral Home.

PITTS, William Henry (1919 - 2008)

William Henry Pitts, 89, Schell City, the son of Tubal Cain and Ora Adner (Simmons) Pitts, was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Schell City, and passed from this life on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, in the Medicalodge in Nevada. Bill attended school in Schell City and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Patton's Army, a member of the 6th Armored Division. After returning from the war, Bill settled in the Kansas City area where he met and married Floe Cushman on June 29, 1948. A housepainter by trade, Bill ran his own business for many years and continued that profession even after relocating back to Schell City in the mid-1990s. It was while living there that he married Ruby Cline. In Bill's spare time, he enjoyed fishing and was always interested in spreading the Word of God to those he came in contact with. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, both wives and one son, Larry Pitts. Survivors include one son, William B. Pitts - Larned, KS; one daughter, Janet Clark - Prairie Village, KS; one step-son, Charles Judd - Kansas City; one step-daughter, Virginia Stickney - Olathe, KS; one daughter-in-law, Lori Pitts - Bushong, KS; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Services began at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City with Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Musical selections were Under His Wings and Great Is Thy Faithfulness. Pallbearers were family and friends. Interment with military honors were conducted at the Green Lawn Cemetery in Schell City. Arrangements were entrusted to the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home in Schell City.
