Michael James Poe, July 2, 1976 – Feb. 21, 2009. Michael James Poe, 32, Garden City, died Feb. 21, 2009, surrounded by his family at Saint Luke’s-East in Lee’s Summit. He was born July 2, 1976, in Kansas City, the son of Danny Ray and Mary Ann (Brown) Poe. He graduated from Raytown High School. Oct. 25, 2002, he married Marcey in Independence. Mr. Poe worked for Mobility First until his illness forced him to quit. He spent many Wednesday evenings with his dad and brothers, racing his Henry J at KCIR drag strip. He loved cars. Preceding him in death were his father, Danny Poe, on April 8, 2007; and his maternal grandparents, Vernon and Helen Brown.Surviving are his wife, Marcey, and his precious son, Luke Poe, of the home; his stepson, Jeffrey Morton, Raytown; his mother, Mary Ann Poe, Garden City; his brothers, Daniel Poe, Harrisonville, Thomas Poe, Garden City, and Andrew Poe, Independence; his paternal grandparents, Ray and Mary Poe, Warsaw; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins that adored him. Mr. Poe was kind and loving and strong and brave to the end. Casket bearers were Daniel Poe, Thomas Poe, Andrew Poe, Mike Poe, Brian Corteville and Jason Irwin. Services were Feb. 26 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Harrisonville with Father Robert H. Stewart officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Latour, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.
