She was born November 26, 1944 to Carl and Cleo Reynolds Mott in Blairstown, Missouri. Bertie is survived by her husband, Wayne Smith of Butler, Missouri; one son, Mike Wheeler of Mound City, Kansas; two daughters, Cynthia Lynn Francy of Eudora, Kansas and Lisa LeeAnne Weise and husband J. Patrick of Mesa, Arizona; three stepsons, Jerry Gray of Tonitown, Arkansas, Randy Smith and wife Beth of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Douglas Alan Smith and wife Stacey of Greenwood, Missouri; a stepdaughter, Tami Soncrant and husband David of Jefferson City, Missouri; adopted daughter, Karen Oliphant of Pleasant Hill, Missouri; two brothers, John Mott and wife Julie of Adrian, Missouri and Bob Mott and wife Dorlene of Peculiar, Missouri; three sisters, Wilma Herndon and husband Bill of Butler, Missouri, Juaneita Johnson and husband Larry of Warsaw, Missouri and Geneva Springer and husband Wayne of Harrisonville, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, LeRoy and Gene; and an infant brother.

SMITH, Christina Niggley (1869 - 1944)
Christina Niggley was born March 3, 1869 in Montrose, Missouri and spent her early girlhood there, living in the home of her grandfather and grandmother Wally. On December 8,1889 she was married to Albert Smith, also of Montrose, Missouri. They continued to live in that town for a while, later moving to a farm in Bates County, where they resided for many years. After an illness over a long period of time, she was released
from her suffering on June 28, 1944. She leaves to morns her passing away the husband , Albert Smith, her companion of over fifty years, two daughters, Mrs. Maggie Davis, Rich Hill, Missouri, Mrs. Della Robinson, Kansas City, Kansas, five sons Clark Smith, Butler, Missouri, Joe Smith, Adrian, Missouri, Roy Smith, Kansas City, Kansas, Woody Smith, Independence, Missouri, Robert Smith, Butler, Missouri and a number of grandchildren. A son, Ellis Smith passed away in 1939, and a daughter, Christina Davis in 1931. Funeral services were conducted at Culver Underwood Funeral Parlors, Butler, Missouri. After the service her sons and a grandson reverently carried their beloved Mother and Grandmother to her last resting place in beautiful Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, Missouri.

Roy was known for his lawn care around town. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at Moore Cemetery, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. SMITH, Edna Blanche (1913 - 2004)

Edna Blanche Phillips Smith, 91, formerly of Bronaugh, MO, died Thursday, August 26, 2004 at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, MO. She was born January 11, 1913 to George Amos Phillips and Fannie Shaddok Phillips. She was united in marriage to Ralph “Smitty” Smith on February 25, 1933 in Ft. Scott, KS. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1998. They had celebrated 66 years of marriage.Edna was born near Hume, MO, and was a lifelong resident of this area, living in Hume, Metz, and later Bronaugh. She was the oldest of seven children, attended Brush College Country School to the fifth grade when she was needed at home to care for an ailing stepmother and six siblings. For 23 years she worked with her husband at the Metz School as custodian as well as at the Metz Bank. She later did paper hanging, cleaning, and childcare in the Metz area. She attended the Metz Christian Church. In 1983 Mrs. Smith left Metz moving to Bronaugh to be nearer her family. Survivors include one daughter, Opal Wycoff of Moundville, MO; three sons, Ralph “Bud” Smith of Colorado, Philip Smith, Ft. Scott, KS, Donald Smith, Bronaugh, MO, 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, William “Bill” Phillips, Monroe, WA, and several nieces, nephews, and relatives. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Smith and Paul Smith, her parents; four brothers, Dick, George, Robert and John Phillips; two sisters, Viola Hopkins and Marie Key, and one daughter-in-law Judy. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2004 at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Large Cemetery, Bourbon County, KS. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Edwin Smith 1909 - 2009. Edwin Smith and twin brother Edward were born July 25, 1909 the sons of Francis M. and Edna Jane (Silvers) Smith near the Ballard community in Bates County. Edwin passed away January 16, 2009 at the Bates County Memorial Hospital at the age of 99. Funeral services were held Monday, January 19, 2:00 p.m. at the Heuser Funeral Home in Rich Hill, Missouri with Pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. Interment was in the Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, Missouri.

Francis Lloyd Smith, age 71 of Butler, Missouri went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2009 following a heroic battle with cancer for the past four and a half years. He was born September 22, 1937 to Edwin and Leona Marie Nichol Smith near Adrian, Missouri. Frank is survived by his wife, Linda Smith of Joplin, Missouri; two sons, Erik Smith and wife Davida of Cooperas Cove, Texas and David Smith and wife Aneta of Leander, Texas; three daughters, Nicole Black and husband Jason of Joplin, Missouri, Amber Durden and husband Stacy of Springfield, Missouri and Laura Rager of Denver, Colorado; a sister, Judy Norman of Butler, Missouri; 13 grandchildren, Amber, Jacob, Amanda, Caleb, Elizabeth, Katherine, Logan, Grayson, Sydni, Lincoln, Paityn, Myla and Michael; and many cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother and his father passed away at 2 a.m., January 16, 2009 the same day as his son.

Her Lord and Savior called Shirley Bernice Smith home Friday, February 29, 2008, in the presence of her loving family. Shirley was 71 years old, daughter of Otha and Lois Moles, of Adrian, Mo. She was united in marriage in September of 1953 to Dale Smith, and blessed with three daughters. The couple lived in Olathe, Kan., for 20 years before returning to the family farm in the Burdette community west of Adrian, Mo. They were dedicated members of the Drexel First Baptist Church, and involved with Missourians on Mission. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents;
her grandson Luke Wegner; brothers, Lester and Jack Moles, and sister Geraldine Scott. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Dale; daughters Kathy (Dick) Wegner, Ronda (Lindsey) Walters, and Sandy (Dale) VanSlyke; grandchildren Leah (Nate) Theiss, Bonnie (Billy) Zehr, Audrey (Tanner) Welch, Matt Wegner, Jacob VanSlyke, Sam Walters, Jared Wegner, Jeffery VanSlyke, Joshua VanSlyke, Jaime VanSlyke, and great granddaughter Julia Zehr. Shirley is also survived by sisters, Melva Hogan, Vonna Smiley, Wilda Nevels, Faye Robinson, Kate Barton; brothers, Bob and Ray Moles, and many nieces and nephews. Shirley Bernice Smith, July 18, 1936 - Feb. 29, 2008. Shirley Bernice Smith, 71, Adrian, died Feb. 29. She was born July 18, 1936, in Adrian, the daughter of Otha C. and Lois M. (Addleman) Moles. Services were March 3 at the First Baptist Church, Drexel, with burial in the Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home, Adrian.

SMITH, William Elmer (1935 - 2007)

William Elmer Smith, Jr., the son of Goldie (Likens) and William E. Smith Sr., was born on June 2, 1935 in Everton, Missouri. He passed away at this home in Rockville, Missouri on November 10, 2007 at the age of 72 years. Jr. served his country in the Army for a short period of time as a peace keeper. He was married to Alta Swineheart in 1960. To this union four children were born: Bill, Jesse, Rhonda and Angela. In 1969 he married Judy Daniels and to this union three children were born: Gail, Joe and Pete. In 2002 Junior married Sharon Fisher. Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Billy Smith, one sister Irene Brown, one son Bill Smith and ex-wives Alta and Judy Smith. He is survived by his children Jesse and Kim of Oklahoma, Rhonda Fitzpatrick and Angela Smith, both of Oklahoma, Gail and Rick Lewis of Arizona, Joe and Terry of Rockville, Missouri and Pete and Tina of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Junior worked in a tire factory in Kansas City for many years. After that Junior and his wife Judy ran the Rockville Bar from 1976 to 1996. He was a loving father, grandfather and very dear friend. He was a hunter, fisherman and loved trapping. He spent most of his last years in the river bottoms in Rockville. He loved talking about old times with his friends. He had many good times with his friends John Rector, Larry Barcus, Terry McNerny, Dean Huffman and John Roseman. He had lots of stories to tell and loved sitting on the 4 wheeler being “boss of everyone” when he needed things done. He will be very dearly missed by all. He went to rest in the land of the deer and the lake full of fish. This was his dream. He has left lots of fun memories with his family and friends.

William M. SMITH, 74 years old, died at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Mae Bright rest home, 608 A Street Southeast, Miami. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary Jane [(SMITH-JOHNSTON)] Johnson [-spell error], and a twin sister, Mrs. Emma Mienen, both of Butler, MO., and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9P30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the Cooper Funeral home with the Rev. Harry W. CURTIS officiating. Burial will be in the Butler cemetery.
