Lt. Colonel Omer Dene Fahey passed away Nov. 5 at age 75, in Katy, TX. Dene retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1980. Preceding him in death was his wife Emma and twin brother Gene. Survivors are two sons, Keith Fahey and wife, and Kent Fahey and wife, of Texas; two grandsons, Ethan and Wyatt Fahey; a sister, Beatrice Allen, of Missouri; a half- brother, John R. Fahey of CA; many nieces and nephews; two aunts and one uncle. Dene was cremated in Katy, TX. Military memorial service will be at Green Lawn Cemetery, Rich Hill, MO. Heusper Funeral Home, Rich Hill, MO will conduct other services.

Patricia "Sue" Faros age 77, passed away on Nov. 14, 2007 at St Luke's Hospital. Sue was born July 17, 1930, to Francis D. and Emma B. Woodfill in Nevada, where she lived her entire childhood. She was married Feb. 1, 1951, to George C. Faros, also of Nevada. The couple had two children; D. Christopher Faros and S. Cathleen Faros. Sue was employed by the Missouri State Department of Education for 31 years, serving both as a classroom teacher and Principal of Lakeview Woods State School. After her retirement in July 1990, she and her husband volunteered at Truman Medical Center Lakewood for 11 years. Together, they managed the gift shop, each earning more than 7,000 volunteer hours. She was a life member of the Truman Medical Center Lakewood Auxiliary and a member of Raymore Christian Church. In 1996, they moved to the Morningview Community in Raymore, Mo., where she enjoyed her many friends and neighbors. She loved to cook, read, knit and spoil her great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, and her son, Chris. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Faros of Arcadia, Kan.; five grandchildren, Teresa Stewart and Mike, Oak Grove, Mo., Brian Faros and Monique, Leawood, Kan., David Eaton and Charity, Oak Grove, Jill Fawcett and Justin, Dallas, Texas, Angie Faros, Dallas; and 7 great-grandchildren, Clynton and Brayson Stewart, Carson Faros, Adelaide, Audrie, Andrea Eaton, and Ashlyn Fawcett. Services Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at D.W. Newcomers Longview Chapel, Kansas City, Mo. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Melvin Leroy Farris, 69, of Oak Grove, Mo., passed away at his home on Sept. 10, 2006. He was born on Aug. 19, 1937, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Orville and Dorothy Farris. His parents preceded him in death. Melvin was long retired. He served in the United States Air Force. Melvin was an avid stock car race fan and built as well as drove many cars throughout the years, winning many trophies. He shared the love of that sport with his son, Kevin. In recent months, due to his illness, Melvin had been cared for by his loving great-niece, Tina Blaskey, and her husband Jimmy, of Oak Grove. Melvin is survived by his son, Kevin S. Farris, of Nevada, Mo.; a sister, Bobbi M. Blackburn, of Pinon Hills, Calif.; a niece, Lisa Campbell, of Oak Grove; and a nephew, Wayne Deardorf, of Ventura, Calif.; as well as several great nieces and great-nephews. Graveside services will be Saturday, Sept. 23, at Newton Park Cemetery, Nevada.

Edward Fengler, 84, Moundville, Mo., passed away suddenly Monday morning, Sept. 17, 2007, at his home. He was born on July 8, 1923, in Moundville, the son of Erich and Amanda Kuhlman Fengler. He was married to LaRue Young, on Feb. 22, 1947, in Fort Scott, Kan., and she survives of the home. Ed was a member of the Community Christian Church, of Nevada. He attended grade school at Moore and graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1941. He served in World War II with the 377 anti-aircraft division in Germany, England, France, and Belgium as a medic. He was discharged in 1945 and farmed until his retirement. Survivors, in addition to his wife LaRue, include three daughters, Sharon Hinds and her husband, Vic, of Moundville, Carol Long and her husband, Les, of Cleburne, Texas, and Kathy Keithly and her husband, Doug, of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren, Vickie Sprague and her husband Larry, Carla Gilliam and her husband, Brian, Rodney Hinds and his wife, Julie, Brian Long and his wife, Sherry, and Erich and Scott Kiethly; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Kennedy, of Horton, Mo., and Wilma Snyder, of Bronaugh; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Clara Ingles. Funeral services will be held on Wedensday, Sept. 19, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada.

GOOD LADY AT REST - Eve May Clements was born June 2, 1892 in Carroll county, Mo., and died at her home in Adrian, Mo., March 16, 1928; aged 35 years, 9 months and 14 days. She moved with her parents to Southern Cass county when but a few months old and has spent most of her life in Cass and Bate counties. She was married to George Fenton, July 3, 1911. To this union was born two children, Bertha and Wilbur Fenton, aged 15 and 13 years. Besides her husband and children she is survived by her father, C. M. Clements, who resides with the family in Adrian; one sister, Mrs. Nealie Ferguson, of Washington, Mo., and one brother, A. E. Clements, of Kansas City, Mo. Mrs. Fenton united with the Burdett Baptist Church at the age of 23 and was a member there at her death. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and Royal Neighbor Lodges and of the Worth While Community club at Burdett. Her life of unselfish service to her family, friends and neighbors endeared her to all who knew her and she was ever ready and willing to help those in sickness or distress. Her life exemplified Gal. 6:2; Bear ye one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. Mrs. Fenton's life was a big factor for good in this community. She was devoted to her family, her Church and her neighbors. Always willing to respond to every call of the needy. A sweet, loving and lovable woman. Such people are missed when they pass from us. For the husband, children, father and other relatives the public has the deepest sympathy. Funeral services for Mrs. Fenton were held Sunday afternoon from the Adrian Baptist church. Interment was made in the Burdett cemetery.

George W. Fenton was born in Burdett, Missouri, August 15, 1871, and passed away suddenly at the Will Mouse farm near Archie, Missouri, May 24, 1944, at the age of 72 years, 9 months and 9 days. His parents came to Missouri from Kentucky in 1867, his father opening a shoe repair ship in Burdett. George, the third son, lived in and near Burdett for several years. He was known for many years for his ability with a steam engine in the days of the steam threshers. On July 3, 1911, he was united in marriage to Ebe Clements, who preceded him in death on March 16, 1928. To this union two children were born, Staff Sgt. D. Wilbur Fenton, now in the armed forces in Australia, and Mrs. Bertha Patterson of Sedalia, Missouri. George Fenton cherished his children and many times had expressed his principal interest in life was to live long enough to see his boy again. On August 31, 1941, he was married to Mrs. Josie Morris, who has been his comfort and condolence through all the trials and sorrows of the past few years. Mrs. Fenton remains to mourn the passing of a faithful companion. Mr. Fenton moved from the farm to Adrian in 1926, where he engaged in the insurance business and various other public activities. During these years he has endeared himself to all who knew him, ever ready t give a helping hand or a kind word of encouragement or advice. He prided himself in helping his fellowman, much preferring that to riches or fine clothes. He became a member of the Adrian Methodist church in 1930. In 1919 he was initiated into the Masonic lodge, of which he had been an active member. Besides his wife, son and daughter, he is survived by a brother, C.F. Fenton, of Drexel, Missouri, and a grand daughter Marilyn Patterson, of Sedalia.

GRANDMA FENTON DEAD - Mary J. Fenton, died at her home in Burdett, Mo., Wednesday, January 25th, 1911, aged 81 years, 6 months and 23 days. Mary J. Crume was born in Nelson County, Kentucky, July 2nd, 1858, to this union 5 children were born, the husband and three of the children preceded the wife and mother in death some years ago. The family came to Missouri in the pioneer days and have resided at Burdett for many years. Grandma Fenton was a good woman, a kind and obliging neighbor and a true and loyal friend. For a number of years she had been a patient sufferer. During this time her son George gave her tender and constant attention, neglecting nothing that would add to her comfort. The surviving children are Fred, of Main City, and George, of Burdett. Funeral services were held from the home last Thursday, after which the body was laid to rest in the Burdett cemetery.

Dorothy Maxine Sollars Ferguson, 85, Adrian, Mo., joined and rejoiced with the Lord on January 25, 2009, at her home in Adrian. Services Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian. Burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery. Dorothy was born April 12, 1923, near Altona, Mo. She was the daughter of Guy Ora and Freda Bertha (Hoeger) Sollars and a sister to George and Russell Sollars and Mildred Shelton. She married Freeman Edwin Ferguson on June 14, 1945, and to this union three sons were born: Jerry, Tom and Carl. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Free, her parents, her brothers, George and Russell, two brothers-in-law, Bert and Jim Ferguson and two sisters-in-law, Dorthea Ferguson and Maxine Sollars. Ferguson, died at her home near Mulberry, this county, on Saturday, April 19th, 1884, and was buried at the Howell graveyard on Sunday last. Mrs. Ferguson was a consistent member of the United Brethren church and was much loved and respected by her neighbors and all who knew her. She leaves a husband and a son and daughter to mourn her loss, to whom the entire community extend a heart felt sympathy.

Mildred Rose Ferguson, 80, of Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2009. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Butler, MO. "Millie" was born and raised in Bates County, Butler, MO. Millie was elected Butler Fair Queen and then became a candidate for the American Royal Queen, which she was selected to serve in the Queens Honor Court. In 1949 she was honored to become Missouri State Hatchery Queen. On August 1st, 1952, Millie married Donald E. Ferguson on the Bride and Groom Show in New York City. "Millie" was a representative of Avon Cosmetics for thirty-one years winning many top honors and awards. It was her fun loving nature that people adored as she created friendships with anyone who talked with her. The last few years have been hard for her to be in contact with many friends as she battled "one thing after another." Millie is survived by her loving husband of almost 57 years, Donald E. Ferguson of Amsterdam, MO; her sister Helen Hill, Butler, MO; brother Kenneth Engelhardt, Adrian, MO; and brother Bill Engelhardt, Broken Arrow, OK. She will also be missed by her three children Mark Ferguson of Kansas City, Debbie (Ferguson) O'Hearn and husband Brian of Sacramento, CA, Ronnie Ferguson and wife Debbie of Lee's Summit. Millie leaves seven grandchildren, Donnie and wife Jenny, Hannah Rose, Megan, Jack, Tyler, Zach and Michael. Her latest joy was great-granddaughter, Madeline Rose Ferguson. We all love her and miss her very much.

Ruth Eileen Ferguson, 90, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, formerly of Hume, Missouri died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Lonoke Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was born October 26, 1918 in Hume, Missouri, the daughter of Lloyd and Cora Austin Brooks. She married James Ferguson on May 26, 1942 at Nevada, Missouri. After their marriage they lived in California until moving to North Little Rock in 1950. Ruth was a collector of depression glass, post cards and antiques. She and James enjoyed traveling and ballroom dancing to the swing bands. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting and was her families' genealogist. Ruth always had fond memories of growing up on her family farm called Nubbin Ridge where she loved the flowers, especially lilacs where she had tea parties as a young girl. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Clarence A. Brooks and two sisters, Elsie Cohick and Virgie Drumeller. Survivors include her husband, James of North Little Rock, Arkansas; two nieces, Linda Garrison and Clarenita Brack and three nephews, Timmie Drumeller, Larry Cohick and Eddie Brooks Sr. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Pleasanton, Kansas. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas.

Jimmie was born January 22, 1932 in Stockton, MO, the son of Obie and Luree (McCubbin) Fields. He had lived in Butler for 20 years. Jimmie worked as a truck driver for 20 years before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frances Pauline, on February 24, 2000, three sisters and three brothers. He is survived by one sister, Goldie Coonce of Grandview, MO; his companion, Joann Carpenter of Butler, MO and many nieces and nephews.

Larry Gene Fields, 51 of Butler, MO died Friday, August 24, 2007 at his home. Funeral services Tuesday, August 28 at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian, MO. Burial in Taberville cemetery, Taberville, MO. Larry was born in Lee's Summit, MO on May 4, 1956, the son of Lewis Artis and Clarice Florene (Coonce) Fields. Larry attended school at Lee's Summit and had worked as a carpenter. He married Barbara Rodgers on October 12, 1976 in Bentonville, AR. Larry and Barbara lived in Rich Hill, MO for 17 years before recently moving to Butler. Larry enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, coon hunting, fishing, Chiefs football and raising chickens. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ronald Dean Fields, four sisters, Shirley Ann Eslick, Caroyn Sue Barnard, Donna Louise Barnard and Barbara Ann Fields. Survivors include: his wife Barbara of the home; two sons, Lewis and Clinten Fields both of Butler; two brothers, Randy Fields and wife Helen of Horton, MO and Lewis Fields and wife Mary of Butler; four grandchildren, Colton Ryan Davis, Zachary Preston Fields, Beckett Michael Gene Black and Madeline Renee Black; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Buddy Edward Fillpot Jr., died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004, of injuries received in an automobile accident south of Rich Hill. He was born April 22, 1980, in Butler, the son of Bud & Nancy (Swarnes) Fillpot. He graduated from Rich Hill High School in 1998. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He was employed at Wal-Mart Distribution Center 6065 in Harrisonville. He was preceded in death by his grandfather George Fillpot; and two cousins, Justin Ross and Gary Fillpot. He is survived by his parents Bud and Nancy Fillpot of the home; grandparents, all of Rich Hill; aunts and uncles; and many cousins. Services were held at the First Christian Church in Rich Hill, on Sept. 8, 2004. Interment was in Green Lawn Cemetery in Rich Hill. (Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill)

ESTEN CALVIN FISHER - Esten Calvin Fisher, 74, Adrian, Mo., died Friday, March 8, 2002 at his home. Services were March 12 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler, Mo. Burial in Altona Cemetery, Adrian. Mr. Fisher was born July 8, 1927 in Arma, Kan., to Aden Estes and Edna Mae Avery Fisher. One of four children, he was raised in Arma where he attended high school. In 1945 he was inducted into the US Army and served in the Medical Corps. In 1947, after being honorably discharged, he moved to Kansas City, Mo. On July 31, 1948 he married Sylvia Crawford and after 18 years of wedding bliss, two sons were added to this union. He worked for the Chevrolet plant in Leeds, Mo., from 1948 to 1951 and began work as a batcher for Steward Sand and Material Company, retiring in 1989 at the age of 62. In 1977 he moved to a farm in rural Adrian and remained there until 1998 when he left the farm to the grandsons and moved into town. He was a long time member of the Hoisting and Portable Engineer Union for 34 years. Mr. Fisher's family, especially his twin grandsons, was his pride and joy. Other enjoyable pastimes included gardening, singing sacred hymns and visiting with anybody who would lend an ear. He was a close personal friend of George Jones since 1956. He leaves his wife of Adrian; two sons, Jeffrey Fisher and wife LeAnna and Brian Fisher, all of Adrian; twin grandsons, Jeffrey and Kevin; and seven nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Bertha Cooper, Loretta Pickering and Crystal Leas.

Mrs. Laura Fisher, Sister of Mrs. C. A. Waller, Passed Away Last Thursday Night -- Mrs. Laura Fisher, a sister of Mrs. C. A. Waller of this city, passed away at her home at Spruce, twelve miles east of Butler, Thursday night, following a stroke of paralysis suffered Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Fisher was a member of the Presbyterian church at Spruce, where she took an active part for many years, and she also found great interest in the Federated Farmers' Club in her community. Surviving relatives are one son, Walter Fisher of Kansas City, a daughter, Mrs. Ruben Schillinger, of the Spruce vicinity, and three sisters, Mrs. F. E. Eads of Spruce, Mrs. E. Fisher of Kansas City, and Mrs. C. A. Waller of Nevada. Mr. Fisher passed away two years ago. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at Spruce and burial will be in the Radford cemetery.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Grandview, a member of OES, and had retired from Bendix. She was preceded in death by her former husband, David FitzGerald in 1990, and her brother and sister. She is survived by five children, 22 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, three nieces and two nephews.

Nannie Jane Clark, daughter of Merideth and Martha Jane Clark was born September 12, 1887 in Saline County near Slater, Mo. And passed away November 29, 1965 at the Bates County Memorial hospital, Butler, Missouri at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 17 days. She was united in marriage to Jake Fizer on October 17, 1914. To this union one daughter was born. Mrs. Fizer was converted and became a member of the Baptist Church at the age of 16 years. Mrs. Fizer was a loving wife and mother, a good neighbor and friend. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Jewell Kralik of Bell, California, one granddaughter, Mrs. Charlene Thrasher of Rico Rivera, California and five great grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Six Chapel December 2, 1965. Burial was in the Altona Cemetery.

Phyllis Aleen Fleener, 71, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at Life Care Center of Grandview, Grandview, Mo. She was born Sept. 23, 1935 in Albert Lee, Minn., to Northrup P. Larson and Olive Irene Oyer Larson. Phyllis moved to Missouri with her family at the age 10. She lived and grew up in Virgil City, Mo. Phyllis worked as a Developmental Aide at Nevada State Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1985. She also worked at Nevada Manor Nursing Home as part-time med-tech during that time. Phyllis was a member of the Christian Church, Liberal, Mo. She was active in 4-H for many years and also with the Mo-Kan Square Dancing Club for many years. Survivors include six sons, Danny Fleener, Ashbury, Mo, Donny Fleener, Midland, N.C., Ronnie Fleener, Sheldon, Mo., Leroy Fleencr, Waynesville, Mo., Eddie Fleener, Virginia Beach, Va., and Phillip York, Nevada, Mo.; three daughters, Jannett Galster, Nevada, Mo., Betty Burdick, Bronaugh, Mo., and Delinda Rhync, Brownwood, Texas; 26 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Northrup Larson Jr., Centerview, Mo.; two sisters, Mariana Cotton, Nevada, Mo., and Della Parkinson, Harwood, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jim Larson. Funeral services will he held on Wednesday. Aug. 29, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, Mo. Scott, KS to Norman William Floyd and he preceded her in death March 9, 2006. Mrs. Floyd was born and raised in Vernon County, MO. She spent most of her adult life in Booneville, MO and has resided in Greenwood, IN since 1990. She worked as a bookkeeper for a variety of businesses. She was a member of the United Methodist church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Mrs. J. A. Ford Passes After Long Illness - Elosia Mayden Stephenson was born in Clay County, Mo., January 1, 1859. She came to Bates County, Missouri with her parents in 1872. They located in Hudson township where she lived 61 years. She was converted in 1883 and united with the M.E. church of which she was a consistent member the remainder of her life. Although a great sufferer she died in the triumph of a living faith, Nov. 28,1933. She was married to John A. Ford June 12, 1889. Six children were born to this union, five of whom survive, namely: Amos Ford, Appleton City, Missouri; Henry Ford, Parsons, Kansas; Emmitt Ford of the home; Guy Ford, Appleton City, MO; Bernice Drake of St. Louis, MO; one daughter, Rhoda, having preceded her in death. She is also survived by two stepchildren, Mrs. Bessie Ammons of Rockville, MO and Albert Ford of Salina, Kansas, who shared her love and affection as if they were her own. She was one of a family of nine children, all but three having preceded her. The surviving members of her family are: Eugene Stephenson, Trenton, MO; and Frank and Ethel Stephenson, of Appleton City. Funeral services were held on Wed., Nov. 29 and interment made in Round Prairie Cemetery.

He was united in marriage to Diana Lynn Brady in 1974. Two sons were born to this union, Richard and Scott. Services were held on Monday, December 29, at the Atkinson Funeral Home, Adrian, MO, with burial to follow in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, MO.

John Alexander Ford was born in this community on July 16, 1854, and died at the home of his daughter on Oct. 9, 1939, at the age of 85 years, two months and 23 days. He grew to manhood in the same community in which he was born and on Nov. 2, 1882, he was married to Rosa E. Price. To this union was born four children, two dying in infancy. Surviving are Bessie Avis Ammons, of Rockville, and Albert H. Ford of Salina, Kansas. On June 12, 1889, he was again united in marriage to Eloisia M. Stephenson who was taken Nov. 28, 1933. To this union was born six children, a girl, Rhoda, dying at the age of 10. Those surviving are Amos, of Appleton City, Henry, of Parsons, Kans., Emmett, of Columbia, Mo., Guy, of Kansas City, and Bernice Drake, of St. Louis. Of a large family of brothers and sisters only one, Mrs. Emma Peak, of Nevada, is left. Mr. Ford professed Christianity in early youth and joined the Presbyterian church afterward changing his membership to the Round Prairie Baptist church where his membership remained until his death. He was a consistent Christian, always interested in the church and Sunday school when able. He was uncommonly alert and active until the loss of his sight about 12 years ago. Since the death of his second wife he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Gilbert Ammons where he was tenderly cared for and for which he showed his appreciation by word and action. The death of this one takes the last of the pioneer settlers of this community and he will be greatly missed by the relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Round Prairie Baptist church. Burial was in Round Prairie cemetery. All the children were present.

Sudden Death - Mrs. Marjaram Nichols Ford dropped dead at the home of her son, John A. Ford, in Bates county, April 22, 1905. She was born in Kentucky January 19, 1819, and at the time of her death was 86 years, 3 months, and 3 days old. In 1822, she came to Missouri with her parents, who located 1 1/2 miles east of Ashland. At the age of 16 she united with the Baptist church and in 1842 was married to Elington Ford. Two sons and five daughters were born to them, four of whom survive her. Deceased was a sister of Mrs. Rhoda Wyatt, Ira E. Nichols and H. H. Nichols of this place. She was buried in Round Prairie cemetery in Bates county.

Gary Wayne Franklin, 68, was born to Earl B. and Mildred B. Spillman Franklin on Dec. 27, 1940, in rural Hume. Gary passed away on Oct. 2, 2009, at Meadowbrook Hospital, in Gardner, Kan., from complications due to lung cancer. He attended Hume schools all 12 years graduating in 1958. Gary proudly served in the United States Army from Feb. 17, 1959, being honorably discharged on Nov. 30, 1964. His specialty title was cannoneer. Gary was a member of the American Legion Post No. 19. He went into the service station business with his brother Charles. Then Gary and family moved to Fort Scott where he went back into the service station business in Hume and opened Gary's auto service. His last employment was at Cooks Ham, Inc., to which he enjoyed commuting with his nephew Gene. He joined the Hume Christian Church at an early age, was a member of 4-H, church youth group, Hume Saddle Club, and served on the Hume City Council. He was a member of the Hume Alumni only missing the reunion when he was in the military. Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding horses, bowling, supported youth bowling teams, spending time with his family, friends and his love of cars. In later yeas, Gary enjoyed the company of his dogs, who became his daily companions. Hew as a great believer in education, always encouraging his children and grandchildren to continue learning and never stop, and meet new challenges. Gary leaves behind his wife and best friend Pat of 38 years, and their blended family; daughters, Tammy Locke and husband Kevin, Polly Plain, of Gardner, Kan., Candy Duarte and husband Manuel, of Spring Hill, Jenny Franklin, of Nashville, Tenn.; sons Lynne Plain and wife Kathy, of Fort Scott, and John Hubbard, of Russelville, Ark.; brothers, Charles and wife Jeannie, of Hume, and Keith, of Springfield; grandchildren, Deidre Plain Hof and husband Phillip, of Olathe, Kan., Jeffrey Plain and friend Courtney, of New Braufels, Texas, April and Logan Maxwell, of Nashville, Tenn., Levi Locke, of Manhattan, Shyan Locke, of Gardner, Ali, Nick, and Rachel Duarte, of Spring Hill, Ricky Duarte and wife Ashley, of Edgerton, Kan., Elizabeth Schiller, of Fort Riley, Kan., Alex Duarte, of Edgerton; adopted dogs, Princess and Abby; mother-in-law Anna Mae Carrel; sisters-in-law, Karen Carrel, of Harrisonville; Aunt Edna Winters, of Pleasanton, Kan.; numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Keith R. Franks was born in Enid, Okla., on January 2, 1954. He passed on April 5 in Harrisonville, Mo. Keith grew up in Raytown. He graduated from Raytown South in 1970. During high school, he assisted Coach Bud Lathrup with his basketball teams. Keith married Linda Martens Hubbard in Raytown on May 15, 1986. When he married Linda, he inherited six brothers and sisters. Keith and Linda considered their nieces and nephews as their children. They had two dogs that they loved, Boomer and Boomer II. Keith worked for the Postal Service for 25 years before his health forced him to retire. He was a representative for the Postal Union. When Keith was a teenager, he became a Christian and was baptized, joining the Blue Ridge Baptist Temple. Keith was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Linda, on February 14, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Darlene Miller Franks; an infant brother; nephew David Moore, and his grandparents. He is survived by his father, H. R. Franks and Helen of Garden City, Mo., and Sun City, Ariz.; aunt Wanda Franks McDonald, uncle Zane Franks, both of Blue Springs; aunt Mary Ann McDaniels and Jerry of Harrisonville, Mo., and cousins Marlan and Duane McDonald. Keith is also survived by his mother-in-law, Wilma Martens, Adrian, Mo.; sisters and brothers-in-law Sharon and Larry McMullin of Blue Springs, Betty and Gary Nichol of Archie, Mo., and Diana and Don Moore of Barnett, Mo. He will be greatly missed by his nephew and nieces, Chad and Pam Nichol of Lee's Summit, Sherri Rumbo of Harrisonville, Marsha Sartain of Blue Springs, Amy and Russell Paul of Olathe, and Kathy and Chris Thomas of Jefferson City. Keith, with his sly smile and funny wit, will be missed by all who knew him. Even though Keith went at an early age, he wanted to be with Linda. We all love you Keith. Services will be held at D.W. Linda Faye Franks, 53, Raytown, died Feb. 14, 2008, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, after a very long battle of numerous illnesses. She had complete kidney failure at age 16. She was born Dec. 25, 1954, at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, the daughter of Henry and Wilma (Rush) Martens. She had worked for CFM Distributors for 29 years. She enjoyed her work. She also loved teddy bears, all sports (especially the Chiefs) and her nieces and nephews, who she considered her adopted children. Preceding her in death were her father; one nephew, David Moore; and her paternal and maternal grandparents. Surviving are her husband, Keith; and her faithful companion, Boomer II, Raytown; her mother, Wilma Martens, Adrian; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Larry McMullin, Blue Springs, Betty and Gary Nichol, Archie, and Diana and Don Moore, Barnett; four nieces, one nephew, six great-nieces and nephews, a great-great-niece, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Services were Feb. 17 at the Atkinson Chapel, Adrian. Burial was in Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian.

Burial in the Crescent Hill Cemetery, Adrian, Mo. Katheleen was born on January 29, 1938, in Detroit, Mich., to Fletcher and Jasmine Murray Muncrief. She was raised in Hot Springs, Ark., and moved to the Kansas City area in 1964. Katheleen was a meat packer for many years. She was a homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. Preceded in death by her husband, Earl "Max" Frazier, on July 18, 1998. Kathryn "Kathy" L. French, 46, Freeman, died Oct. 8, 2008, at Saint Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. She was born July 6, 1962, at the Missouri Valley Hospital, Harrison County, Missouri Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Jerrold W. and Mary Jane (Leonard) Foutch. She attended school at Woodbine Community School in Woodbine, Iowa, graduating with honors in 1980. During her school years, she was a participant in sports, band and vocal, receiving a superior in piano solos for nine consecutive years. Mrs. French went on to college at Iowa State University in Ames, graduating suma cum laude from the College of Business. While in Ames, she was a resident adviser and tutored many athletic students in math courses. After graduating from college, she went to work for an accounting firm in Omaha, Neb. It was after this time she made the decision to go to Germany and began her career with the federal government. It was here she met her future husband, David French. On May 4, 1992, she married David French in the Virgin Islands. To this union two daughters were born in Heidelberg, Germany; Kaitlyn Rose and Skylar Nicole. In 1996, they moved to Harrisonville, and a year later to an acreage in Freeman. Upon their return to the United States, she continued her 23-year government career by joining the Internal Revenue Service. Preceding her in death was her sister, Kaye Linda Foutch. Surviving are her husband, David French; two daughters, Kaitlyn R. French and Skylar N. French, of the home; a stepdaughter, Erica D. French, Missouri Valley; her mother, Mary Jane Foutch, Woodbine; her father, Jerrold Wayne Foutch, Neola, Iowa; three sisters, Kristine L. Gash, Missouri Valley, Konnie L. Alice Louise (Schlup) Friedli, 75, Harwood, was born on June 8, 1933, In Plattsburg, to Bessie (Sims) Schlup and Jesse Schlup. She went to be with her Lord on Aug. 1, 2008, after a lengthy illness. She was united in marriage to Dewyne Henry Friedli on April 12, 1952, in Kansas City, who survives of the home. She lived a full, active life which included 30 years of service as a cook and an active charter member of the Faith Baptist Church, Walker. For the last 13 years, she enjoyed going to the Christian Healthcare Center, in Nevada, on Thursday evenings where she sang gospel specials during their service and she loved visiting with the residents. She had a great love for everyone and in return was loved by many. The most important job she had was to raise and nurture her family. Louise and her husband, Dewyne, had 10 children: Jim Friedli, Darrell and Shirley Friedli, Steve and Tina Friedli, Warren and Roberta Friedli, Rick and Diane Friedli, all of Nevada, Janelle Friedli, Lamar, Sharon and Mark Hauf, Walker, Bob and Misty Friedli, El Dorado Springs, Doris and Tony Micklich, Walker, and she was preceded in death by one infant. She is survived by three brothers: Bill Schlup, Indian Springs, Roy Schlup, Schell City, and Larry Poe, Odessa; three sisters: Barbara Brown, Walker, Thelma Shutters, Schell City, and Bonnie Stone, Nevada. Louise loved and enjoyed 39 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, her church family and friends. Louise was preceded in death by mother, Bessie Schlup; her fathers, Jesse Schlup and Edgar Poe; one sister, Jessie Luther; two brothers, Jim Schlup and Tom Schlup, one infant child; one granddaughter, Maggie Collins; and one daughter-in-law, Janie Friedli. Services were held Monday, Aug. 4, at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City. Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery west of Schell City.

Charles "Charlie" Richard Fritts, age 70, of Amsterdam, Mo., passed to his heavenly home on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, in Butler, Mo. He was born May 16, 1936, to Ralph and Grace Fritts in Butler. Charlie, one of two children, grew up in the Amsterdam area where he excelled in academics, music and basketball, graduating from Miami High School in 1954. He attended K-State and graduated from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., in 1958 where, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. During college he worked two summers on the Alaskan Pipeline. Charlie joined the U.S. Navy in 1958, becoming a Naval pilot who flew Skyraider and A-4 Skyhawk planes off the U.S.S. Intrepid and Enterprise aircraft carriers. In 1962 he earned the distinguished honor of Top Gun of the Carrier Air Group Six based in the Mediterranean. He was a test pilot with McDonald Aircraft in St. Louis and in 1964 became a greatly respected TWA pilot of 32 years where he competently "drove" the DC9, 707, 727, L10-11 and 747s both domestically and overseas. This provided him and his family the opportunity of traveling to far off locations as well as meeting and making many friends. Charlie proudly served as a Missouri State Representative for the 125th District 1996-98. During his term, he held the distinction of serving on seven committees and was instrumental in having more bills passed than any previous freshman representative. He remained an avid member of the Democrat Party, supporting both candidates and issues. Besides being a member of the Amsterdam Masonic Lodge No. 141, Charlie was a member of the Ararat Shrine Flying Fez, using his caring talents in transporting ill youth and families in the Shriners'plane. Likewise, he used his personal plane to fly medical trips for the community when needed. An avid collector of BIG antiques, Charlie had a collection of "crawler" tractors -- starting with a Fritts' family's Caterpillar Series No. 10 through No. 60. As a member of the Western Missouri Antique Tractor Association at Adrian, Mo., he reveled in "the hunt and acquisition" of old steam engines. One of his highlights was the moving of a bridge from central Bates County to the Pioneer Village in Adrian. Charlie co-chaired the Bates County Sesquicentennial in 1991. With a working capital near zero, he engineered a countywide series of celebrations by securing a battery of volunteers that would rival any professional planner. He and his family sponsored air shows at the Butler Municipal Airport for the general public. As a past president of the Butler Rotary Club, Charlie was named Rotarian of the Year in 2000-'01 and twice became a Paul Harris Fellow for the Rotary Foundation. He belonged to the Adrian Optimists where he worked in any and all capacities. The Butler School District elected Charlie 12 years to the Board of Education where he served several years as president. Charlie was on the operating board of Bates County Industries and was very instrumental in keeping it at a high standard of operation. Farming was always a part of Charlie's life, starting with his teenage summers spent on Uncle Dick's farm near LaCygne, Kan. The acreage, cattle and machinery brought relaxation to his stressful aviation responsibilities. Because of this, he was a member of Missouri Cattlemen's Association. Charlie was an active member of the Happy Hill Church of God where he raised his tenor voice in praise. Because he played a "mean" trumpet during high school. Charlie had a dance band "Charlie Fritts Band." Later, he performed with the Butler Nostalgia Band. Charlie is survived by the love of his life, Marge (Stipp) who has been a sweetheart since grade school and a wife since June 8, 1958. He is also survived by three children two sons, Kelly and wife Delora Jean Fritts of Drexel, Mo., and Scott Fritts of Stilwell, Okla.; daughter Lynn Bagby and husband Jay of Adrian; seven grandchildren, "Chopper" and Lacee Bagby, Kelsi, Shelby and Seth Richard Fritts and Kevin Shannon and wife Christi and Mandy Shannon; a great-granddaughter, Raleigh Shannon; sister, Judy Reynolds of Shell Knob, Mo.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenny and Ruth Fritts of Stilwell, Kan.; a niece, nephews, aunt, cousins and loads of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and stillborn son, Kimbol Raymond Fritts. Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 10, at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, with pastor Ron Dunlap officiating. Burial, will be at West Point Cemetery, Amsterdam.
