Vonna Marie Wagner, daughter of James D. and Sandra D. (Pratt) Wagner, was born May 6, 1966 in Appleton City, Missouri. She passed away at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada, Missouri January 28, 2008 at 41 years of age. Vonna lived in Montrose and Appleton City for 17 years and in Nevada, Missouri at Skills Unlimited Group Home for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose, Missouri. Vonna enjoyed coming home to visit. She enjoyed watching her nieces and nephews play and make a lot of noise. She loved sweets, such as Mom's homemade ice cream. Every time she came home she had to stop and see her sister, Sharon, and would get so excited. She was Daddy's "Big Girl" as he would call her. She enjoyed listening to music. Her Friend, Joe, would push her around on the motorcycle and she just loved it. Preceding Vonna in death were her paternal grandparents, Albert and Catherine Wagner; two uncles, Leroy and Gene Wagner; and a great-grandmother, Ida Sickman. Survivors include her parents, Jim and Sandy Wagner of Appleton City, Missouri; her maternal grandmother, Dolores Pratt of Montrose, Missouri; a sister, Sharon and husband Bobby Dains of Schell City, Missouri; two brothers, Danny Wagner and wife Janet of Lowry City, Missouri and Norman Wagner and wife Amy of Montrose, Missouri; seven nieces and nephews, Ashlie and Willy Dains, Brittney, Denise and Bridgette Wagner and Jacob and Cory Wagner; and one great-nephew, Corbin Crawford Wagner. Funeral Mass: Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montrose, Missouri, Thursday, January 31, 2008. Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery in Montrose, Missouri.

Edna Mae "Eddie" Walker, age 91 of Ozark, Missouri died Friday, June 19, 2009 at Riverside Manor in Ozark. She was born March 31, 1918 to Robert Lee and Maggie Conard Everett in Butler, Missouri. Eddie is survived by her daughter, Judy Martin and husband R.K. of Nixa, Missouri; two granddaughters, Barbara Blaine and husband Dr. James of Springfield, Missouri and Karen Ingles and husband Christopher Michael of San Anselmo, California; four great-grandchildren, Sam Blaine, Sara Blaine, Mark Blaine and Jamie Blaine; and three great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Norman in July of 2004

Jackie Daniel Walker was born on Dec. 11, 1959, in Parsons, Kan., to John Oliver Walker Sr. and May Belle (Journot) Walker and passed away at his home on July 10, 2007. Jack lived in may states including Kansas, California, Oklahoma and Missouri. He worked on oil rigs, bridge crews, harvesting and used his love of concrete work to stay in Missouri working for Julian Concrete in El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Duffy and MM Concrete company's in Nevada, Mo. Jack Married Sheryl Ann (Ellis) West on Sept. 2, 1994. Jack is survived by his wife Sheryl of the home, one daughter, Janelle Walker of Stockton, Mo.; stepson, Jimmie M. Black and wife, Jamila of Orlando, Fla.; stepdaughter, Andrea Douglas of Nevada; special daughter, Nicole Tunder of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Mikayla and Austin O'Connor, Carly Landaverde all of Stockton, Kalib, Jayden and Kamryn Douglas, Nevada, Harlee Chiles and Madison Girard of Las Vegas, Nev., Antonia Powell, Tybias Bridges and Adrianna Martin of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, John Walker and wife Hilde of Lawton, Okla., and Jim Walker and wife Teri of Oswego, Kan; four sisters, Pat Hunt of Parsons, Kan., Cheryl Lunday and Lary Dade of Schell City, Lee Ann and Gerald Driggs and Jeannie and Randy Gassen all of El Dorado Springs; and foster mother, Lorene Erickson of Wakefield, Kan.; mother-in-law, Ruby Ellis, Rich Hill, Mo.; three brothers-in-law, Bobby Ellis of Rich Hill, Geo and Vicci Ellis of El Dorado Springs, and Zachary and Kari Ellis of Belton, Mo., and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Kay Walker and "special" son, Eric Tunder and his father-in-law, Marion Ellis of Rich Hill. Memorial services were Friday, July 13, at Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs with cremation following.

Prominent Bates County Farmer Dies in Kansas City -- James G. Walker, one of Bates county's most prominent farmers, died in Kansas City Friday, January 24th, 1919, following a surgical operation. Mr. Walker had been in failing health for some time, and in his weakened condition was unable to withstand the shock of the operation. James G. Walker, the son of Dr. and Mrs. H.F. Walker, was born in Bath county, Kentucky, September 19, 1842, and was there educated and reared to young manhood. He was united in marriage to Miss Belle Hazelrigg on January 5, 1872, and to this union were born nine children, eight of whom survive. The surviving children are: Vane Walker, Miss Kate Walker, Mrs. Grover Carroll and Robert Walker, all of this county, and Mrs. Harry Hale, Warrensburg, Mo., Mrs. Chas. Graham, Amsterdam, Mo., Mrs. Harry Clark, Amoret, Mo., and O.W. Walker, Kansas City, Mo. Price Walker died at an early age. In the late 70's they left Kentucky and came west, locating near Trading Post, Kansas, and in 1879 moved to Bates county, where Mr. and Mrs. Walker have since made their home. During the civil war Mr. Walker cast his lot with the Confederacy and served throughout the war with distinction. His intelligence and intrepid daring attracted the attention of his superior officers and he was made a dispatch bearer for his commanding general in which capacity he saw much exciting service and had many thrilling adventures. James G. Walker was one of those delightful characters typifying the code and traditions of the old South, honorable, chivalrous, and fearless, and no more kindly, courteous, hospitable gentleman ever lived. He was intensely devoted to his home and family and their interests occupied at all times the first place in his thoughts. While he never aspired to public office he took a deep interest in public affairs and wielded great influence in political matters in the county. Strong in his likes and dislikes, he was loyal to his friends, of whom he leaves many who will sadly miss his companionship and who mourn with the bereaved wife and children their irreparable loss. The remains were brought to this city Saturday morning and taken to Oak Hill cemetery, where services were conducted and interment was made.

PIONEER CITIZEN DEAD - Daniel Watson was born in Vermillion county, Indiana, on March 31st, 1830, and died April 16th, 1915; aged 85 years and 16 days. He was united in marriage with Lydia Evans August 23rd, 1855, in Madison county, Ohio. To this union three children were born, one son and two daughters, two of whom with the wife and mother, are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband and father. He was converted to God in young manhood and sought to honor Him by doing good to his fellowman through a long and useful life. When the time came for him to bid farewell to earth and loved ones he went without a murmur, saying: "All is well". He came with his family to Bates county, Missouri, in November 1865, and had made his home in Grand River township for almost fifty years. We shall miss him so much, but our loss is his eternal gain. Funeral services fro Mr. Watson were held from the Altona Methodist church Sunday afternoon. A very large congregation was present to pay a last tribute of respect to the memory of a good man.

Grandma Watson died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Webb Chapman, Monday morning, January 17th, 1921; aged, 87 years, 3 months and 6 days. Lydia Evans was born in Madison county, Ohio, October 11, 1833. She was united in marriage with Daniel Watson August 16th, 1855. To this union three children were born: William Watson and Mrs. D. W. Chapman, both of Altona, and Missouri Bell Watson, who died in infancy. Her husband preceded her in death six years ago. The Watson family came to Bates county in the pioneer days, locating in Grand River township, where she passed away. Grandma was a fine Christian lady and none was more highly respected in the community, where she spent the active years of her life. Always willing and ready to help in time of need. Her life was filled with good deeds. Mrs. Watson was converted in early life and had lived a consecrated Christian life. Her neighbors had for her the highest esteem and respect. Her life was a blessing to the community. Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Altona Methodist church. Burial was made in the Altona cemetery.

Mrs. William Watson died at her home near Altona, Friday, October 30th, 1903, after a lingering illness of pulmonary trouble. Mary Bertha Reed, was born in Cooper county, Missouri, February 2nd, 1863. December 19th, 1883 she was united in marriage with William Watson. To this union four children were born all of whom with the father survive. In 1871 she united with the Christian Church and remained a faithful member of same until 1898, when she united with the M. E. Church South, in which faith she died. Mrs. Watson was a woman loved by all who knew her and left a wide circle of friends who join in extending sympathy to the bereaved husband and children. Funeral services over the remains were held at Altona, Saturday last, and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.

FORMER RESIDENT BURIED HERE - William Watson, son of Daniel and Lydia Watson, was born at Newport, Madison county, Ohio, July 11, 1856, and passed away February 1, 1944, at a hospital in San Bernardino, California, aged 87 years, 6 months and 21 days. When he was nine years old he came with his parents to Bates county, Missouri, and settled on a farm near Alton. On December 19, 1883 he united in marriage with Mary Virginia Reed, who passed away October 30,1903. To this union were born three sons and one daughter. Preceding him in death are Daniel Louis and Archie William, who passed away in 1913, and Bessie Watson Young, who passed away in November, 1931. He made his home for the past 24 years with his remaining son, Marion Otis, his wife Ruth and their two children. June Elizabeth and Marion Otis, Jr., of Chino. Also surviving are Mrs. Ora Maye Campbell of Appleton city, Mo.; Mrs. Naomi Hobgood, Costa Mesa, California; Mrs. Celestine Harrison, Bartlesville, Okla., and Kenneth Young of Appleton City, Mo., all grandchildren. His nephews, William R. Kerr and their families; a great nephew, John William Stires, and his family, and three great-grandchildren. Virginia Lee and Kenneth Young and William Watson Harrison. Memorial services were held at the Heinhauer Chapel in Chino. The body was accompanied by his son to Altona for final services and interment in the family burial plot. The remains of Mr. Watson arrived in Adrian Monday and were buried at Altona cemetery.

William Archie Watson, son of William Watson, died at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Watson, in Grand River township, Saturday, July 26th, 1913; aged 29 years, 11 months and 18 days. He had been ill for the past year of tuberculosis and his death did not come as a surprise to his family and friends. William Archie Watson was an exemplary young man, loved and respected by all who knew him. At the age of 14 years he was converted and united with the Altona Baptist church under the ministry of Rev. Silvius, and lived faithful to his profession until death claimed him. He leaves a father, one sister and two brothers to mourn his death and they have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in this great bereavement. Funeral services were held from the Altona Baptist church Sunday afternoon, burial in the Altona cemetery.

Alberta Ann Weaver, 90, Archie, died May 17, 2008, at Cass Medical Center, Harrisonville. She was born Oct. 8, 1917, in Lockwood, the daughter of Charlie and Dolly Florence (Turner) Armstrong. Dec. 23, 1939, she married Frank Elwood Weaver in Butler. Mrs. Weaver was a cosmetologist and owner and operator of Ann's Archie Beauty Shop until her retirement in 2002. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Archie. She had lived in rural Lockwood and Harrisonville before moving to Archie in 1953. Mrs. Weaver was kind and considerate and enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers and being outside. She especially enjoyed being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Frank, on Nov. 22, 1978; a brother, Charles; and three sisters, Ida, Lucille and Faye. Surviving are Janet and Lynn Ballew, Belton, and their children, J. Eric and Julie Neill, Kelley and Powell Carman, Cynthia and Michael Smith, Geoff and Melinda Ballew, Amy and Rob Kowal and by Jean Groll, Butler; and her daughters, Marni Fortner and Mindi Fortner; her sister, Naomi Gillman, Lamar; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Callaway, James, Carter, Josh, Zoe, Lillian and Parker; other relatives and many friends. Honorary casket bearers were Shelia Patterson; and the United Methodist Church "Busy Bees." Casket bearers were J. Powell Carman, J. Eric Neill, Tracy Rasmussen, Don Smith, Howard Thieman and Dwight Wood. Services were May 20 at the United Methodist Church, Archie. Burial was in the Crescent Hill Cemetery near Adrian, under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

Artie Eugene "Gene" Webber, 77, Miami, Okla., died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005 at South-Crest Hospital in Tulsa, Okla. Services were Feb. 20 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler, Mo. Burial in Adam Howell Cemetery, Virginia, Mo. Mr. Webber was born March 5, 1927 in Gower, Mo., to Artie George Webber and Edna Margaret Woods. One of four boys, he grew up in Gower. At the tender age of only 12, a tragic accident in 1939 took his leg, but he didn't let it stop any of his plans. He played basketball and graduated from Amoret (Mo.) High School in 1945 and then attended the Kansas City School of Accounting. On Dec. 18, 1965 he married Wilma Faye Stark at the home of her parents. He drove a truck for 19 years and was also a bookkeeper and dispatcher for Union Quarries in Independence, Mo. After retiring, he spent several years in Arizona before moving to Oklahoma to be near family. He was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed camping, gardening, traveling, playing cards and visiting with friends and family. Playing pool was his favorite hobby and he was known to many for his ability to make difficult shots. He also liked to watch football, baseball and basketball on television. He always enjoyed time with family as he looked forward to family gatherings. Artie Eugene Webber is survived by his wife of 39 years, Faye Webber of Miami, Okla.; two sisters-in-law, Loraine Bitner, Miami, Okla., and Margaret Stark, Burnsville, Minn.; and very special nephews and nieces, Christopher Adams, Kansas City, Mo., Teddy Bitner and wife Nancy and their children, Hannah Bitner, Miriam Bitner and Becky Wattenbach and her son James, all of Raymore, Mo., Bethene Fahnestock, Miami, Okla., and her daughter, Terri Fahnestock, Springfield, Mo., and Cindy Peck and husband Randy, Prior Lake, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Virgil Webber, John Webber and Lee Webber; two brothers-in-law, Wilbur "Bud' Stark and Dwight D. Wilma "Faye" Webber, age 79 of Miami, Oklahoma died Monday, May 28, 2007 at Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, Missouri. She was born June 17, 1927 to Willie and Anna Ardena Leone Hedger Stark in Virginia, Missouri. Faye grew up in the Virginia and Amoret, Missouri areas where she attended Amoret High School. She went on to Aladdin Beauty School in Kansas City, Missouri and later operated Faye's Beauty Shop in Butler. On December 18, 1965 she was united in marriage to Artie Eugene Webber in Virginia. Faye lived in Casa Grande, Arizona from 1989 to 2003. She was a member of the Elks Ladies and the Virginia United Methodist Church. Faye enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends and family, painting, traveling, reading and watching television. Other enjoyments included cross-stitching, cooking, sewing and shipping. Her cat "Sam" was a great friend and companion. Faye is survived by a sister, Loraine Bitner of Miami, Oklahoma; a nephew, Dr. Teddy Bitner and Nancy of Raymore, Missouri; two nieces, Bethene Fahnestock of Miami, Oklahoma and Cynthia Peck and husband Randy of Prior Lake, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Margaret Stark of Prior Lake, Minnesota; a great nephew, Christopher Adams of the home; four great-nieces; and a great great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Artie in 2005, a brother, Bud Stark; a stillborn brother; one nephew, Steven Stark; and a niece, Teresa Adams. Percy Webster Sr., 67, Peculiar, died Dec. 16, 2008 near Adrian. He was born March 25, 1941 in Eudora, Ark., the son of Pearly and Cora (Bannion) Webster. On Nov. 17, 1958, Percy was united in marriage to Freddie Jean Mosby in Lake Village, Ark. Percy was employed as a forklift operator for the Claycomo Ford Motor Co. in Claycomo for 37 years until his retirement in June 2006. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a former Sunday School teacher at Jericho Baptist Church, Eudora, Ark. Percy loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed taking care of his children, going to any activity involving his grandchildren, working with his hands and mowing the lawn. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George; and a sister, Polly. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Freddie Jean Webster of the home; five sons, Rodney L. Webster and wife, Valencia, and Percy Webster Jr. all of Peculiar, Terry W. Webster and wife, Kim, Harrisonville, Jarrod McCubbin and wife April, Garden City, and Ernest Miner, Beaumont, Texas; a daughter, Valerie L. Webster, Orange Park, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Sam Brown and wife, Luci; two sisters, Ophelia Rodgers and husband, Johnnie, and Mable Campbell and husband, E.J., all of South Bend, Ind.; other relatives and many friends. Services were Dec. 20 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville. Interment was in Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.

Arthur Sebastian Wegerer, age 91, Nevada, died Thursday, June 12, 2008, at Moore Few Care Center following a long and fulfilling life. He was born Aug. 14, 1916, in Leeds, Mo., to Sebastian Wegerer and Emilie Fischbacher. Arthur grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from Central High School. He worked as a retail meat salesman for the Rodeo Meat Company as well as a butcher for various local businesses even after retirement. Survivors include one daughter, Judith Kay Mulqueen, her husband Joseph and their children: Penny and Dan Drager, Debbie and John Gamm, Jim Mulqueen, Margaret and Sean Manzke, their children Seamus and Ainelise; and Micheal Mulqueen, all of Wisconsin. Survivors also include one granddaughter, Jenifer Michelle Gast, her husband Bryan and their children: Alexandra Nicole and Brayden Douglas, all of Nevada; two grandsons, Steven Platt and Robert Dale Platt and his children Joe Platt and Jeremy and Jenny Platt, and their children Courtney and Emily. Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Wegerer and daughter Janet Ann Platt as well as two brothers and one sister. Following cremation there will be a graveside service at Moore Cemetery on Tuesday, June 24.

Donald Lee West was born November 18, 1938 in Foster, Missouri to Orbie Albert West and Vera Elizabeth (Mager) West. Don fell asleep in death on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer. Don was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended the local Kingdom Hall faithfully. At the age of 13, he dedicated his life to his God Jehovah. As a young man, he finished grade school and moved to Butler, Missouri where he spent the majority of his time in his Christian ministry, teaching people about Jehovah and what his Kingdom government means for us. During that time, he supported himself with odd jobs. At the age of 18, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and took a job at Sears in the tire department. In 1957 he met Alberta Louise Zimmerli whom he often referred to as "a little brown-eyed girl" from Turner, Kansas and on August 1, 1959 they were married. To this union 12 children were born. In 1960 Don moved his young family from Kansas City to rural Bates County near Foster, Missouri. Don worked hard at manual labor jobs all his life to support his family--cutting logs and firewood, working in a sawmill, building pole barns and houses and later building cabinets. In 1973 he moved his family to Butler. Later he and his brother Kenneth opened the Butler Cabinet Shop which became a successful business due to Don's hard work, honesty and attention to detail. Through the years Don enjoyed doing many things including playing baseball, fishing, reading, gardening, playing his mandolin and riding his motorcycle and in later years, just sitting on the back porch watching the birds and squirrels. But Don's greatest enjoyment came from his Christian ministry in which he continued to be active until his death. Don was preceded in death by his father Orbie and two brothers, James Edward West and Michael Dean West. He is survived by his wife of the home, Alberta; his mother, Vera Elizabeth West of Butler, Missouri; 12 children, Kevin Lee and wife Tammye West of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Janet Sue West of Lawrence, Kansas, Douglas Wayne and wife Tamara West of Butler, Missouri, Greg Daniel West of Granby, Missouri, Kristine Elaine and husband John Ward of Olathe, Kansas, Anne Marie and husband Danny Menego of Cassville, Missouri; Elizabeth Ann and husband Kenneth Madison of Harrisonville, Missouri, Jonathan David and wife Jennifer West of Youngsville, Louisiana, Rebekah Lynn and husband Chris Dilbeck of Butler, Missouri, Adam West of Butler, Missouri, Matthew Joshua West of Butler, Missouri and Ashley Dawn and husband Trevor Brown of Butler, Missouri; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Don is also survived by four brothers, Kenneth Leon West and wife Carol, Harvey Eugene West, Lonnie David West and wife Patsy and Raymond Delbert West. Joseph West, another of Bates County's oldest citizens, died at his home just east of this city, Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1920, of myocarditis. Joseph West was born in Ohio, Jan. 8, 1850. He was united in marriage to Susan Mary Evans on Aug. 6, 1871. She passed away Nov. 1, 1894. To this union were born eight children, four sons and four daughters of which six are living. On Dec. 17, 1905 he was married to Esther Elizabeth Baker. To this union were born nine children, four sons and five daughters, six of whom survive. He was one of our highly respected citizens, a true friend, husband and father. He was a friend to all who knew him and passed away into his "eternal home" in that abiding christian faith which alone can help us when we are crossing over. Funeral services at the home on east Pine St., Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1920, and remains laid to rest in Dickison Cemetery near Spruce.

Marian E. West, 77 of Drexel, Mo., passed away May 21, 2009 at her home. Marian was born September 7, 1931 in Miami County, Kan., the daughter of Thoburn T. and Marjorie (Benson) Hoover. Marian grew up in the New Lancaster area, where her father was a farmer for over 65 years. She worked for many years as a stewardess for TWA Airlines. Marian faithfully attended the Drexel United Methodist Church and the senior meals in Drexel. Marian was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Hoover, in 1984. She is survived by her son, Steven, of Drexel, as well as nephew Danny Hoover and wife Sherry of Paola, Kan., niece Jayne Todd and husband Keith of Cleveland, Mo., and nephew Jerry Hoover and wife Kim of Louisburg, Kan., and nephew David Hoover and wife Rose of Spring Hill, Kansas. Services Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Mullinax chapel in Drexel. Burial will follow in New Lancaster Cemetery, Miami County, Kansas.

Clarence Andrew (Dutch) Westendorff, 91, the youngest child of Andrew J. and Sophia Katherine (Spreen) Westendorff, was born April 20, 1917, in Dahlgren, IL, and passed from this life July 18, 2008, at the Countryside Estates, Appleton City. Clarence joined the C.C.C. Camp in October of 1934 and left in April 1939. He was a farmer, had several jobs and in November of 1959 he began employment with the Missouri Highway Department. He retired from that job in 1980. On Aug. 24, 1939, Clarence was united in marriage to Frances Nadine Page. She preceded him in death on April 21, 1949. Then, on Aug. 4, 1951, he married Ethel Irene Sexson Highley. She passed away on Sept. 30, 1997. Clarence and Irene loved fishing and camping and made many friends during these past times. Among those who preceded him in death were his parents, first wife, Nadine, and second wife, Irene; seven sisters: Dora King, Anna Smith, Ebbie Hunt, Mary Westendorff, Lottie Johnson, Addie Trent and Maude Simpson; two brothers, William and Alvin; stepson Donald (Buster) Highley; and stepdaughter, Evelyn Sammons. Survivors include his son, James Wayne Westendorff, Osawatomie, KS; daughter, Clara Frances Castro, Grain Valley; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Jean Waltmire, Harrisonville, and Connie Rae Stackhouse, Overland Park, KS; several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Roy Eugene Whalan, 67, Nevada, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2008, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, in Joplin, Mo., following a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 24, 1941, in Nevada, to Timothy Wilber Whalan and Lucy Lucille Moore Whalan. He married Doris Ann Bowen on Dec. 24, 1994, in Nevada, and she survives of the home. Roy was born and reared in Nevada and lived here his whole life. He served in the United States Navy in the early 1960s. Roy made his living as a maintenance supervisor at Nevada Habilitation Center retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 564, American Legion Post No. 2, Eagles Lodge No. 3770, V.F.W. Post No. 2175, and was also a Shriner. Roy loved to hunt, fish and camp. Dale Edward White, 72, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., passed away, Aug. 29, 2008, at the Barone Alzheimer's Care Center, in Nevada. Dale was born Feb. 11, 1936, in Milo, to Nelson and Myrl (Huff) White. He was the oldest of five boys. He graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1953. After school he went to work for the International Shoe Factory. He stayed there until they closed, putting in 33 years with them. Dale then went to work at Frank Doty's Nursery. He later worked at the State Hospital, in Nevada, and then retired from O'Sullivan in Lamar. Dale never met a stranger, getting everyone with a smile. He often stopped what he was doing to help a friend or family. Many memories of this quick-witted man, his ability to make us laugh and the things he taught through simple conversation will remain here with us. Dale was saved at an early age. He always tried to live by the Good Book and was at church whenever the doors were open. Dale loved working the land, doing gardening and landscaping. At five years of age, he saved the fruit tree his mother just knew would die out by the pond. He had discovered his life-long passion. Dale's garden was always huge, and his greenhouse was always blooming. From cactus to an orange tree, if it could be grown he would grow it. If you thought you had killed your plant, you could bring it to him and he would use his "green thumb" and have it growing again. He spent many years on the bowling league and he won many trophies. He loved watching football on Sundays and cheering on his grandson at his football games. He also enjoyed spending time on the water, fishing with his buddies and his family, and the fish fries that followed. Dale married Doris Coleman, and they had two children, Ricky Dean and Vicki Diane. He later married Annette Frizzell and they had one child, Tracy Dawn. Preceding him in death were his father in 1974; his mother in 2001; his daughter Vicki in 2003; and his son Ricky in 2008. He is survived by his daughter Tracy Kirby, of El Dorado Springs; his daughter-in-law, Vicky White, of Neosho; five granddaughters Nicky, Jackie, Emily, Allycia and Lacey, and one grandson, Tanner; seven great-grandchildren, Tierra, Ricky, Hanna, Victoria, Rilen, Jaymin and Addyson; four brothers, Doyle, Duane and wife Helen, of Virgil City, Larry and wife Judy, of Butler, and Terry and wife Bonnie, of Harwood; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 2, at the Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home. Burial was in the Virgil City Cemetery.

Omer Clifford Whitworth, 97, of Moundville, passed away Saturday, August 18, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Omer Clifford Whitworth was born May 3, 1910, near Moundville to Henry Alvy and Annie Emma Hurlburt Whitworth. He farmed and lived all his life in and near Moundville. He started his education at Long Star School, and attended Hackberry one year, finishing his education in Moundville, attending Moundville High School. He started farming on his own in 1926 and farmed and trucked until he was 88 years old. He married Mabel Shields in 1928 and to this union was born three children, Gail Wysong, Patsy Ann Campbell and Gary Alva Whitworth. He married Roberta E. Streiner in 1949 and she preceded him in death in 1999. They had two sons, Robert Eugene Whitworth and Clifford Ray Whitworth. Wilber W. Willhoite, a World War II veteran, died Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, N.Y. He was 85. Wilber was born February 20, 1923 in Drexel, MO., to Wayne and Laura Batsell Willhoite. On July 8, 1951 in Drexel, he married Dorothy Trewett who survives. Wilber and Dorothy where long time residents of Drexel and moved to Wellsville, NY. in 2000 to be near family. He graduated from Drexel High School in 1941 and attended the Missouri University. After attending a tech school in Wichita he was employed at Beech Aircraft Company in Wichita. In January of 1943 he began flight training with US Army Air Corps and served his country until June of 1946. Wilber was a B 24 pilot and he was in the China- Burma and Indian Theater as well as in The Philippines Isles. His awards included the Air Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with 3 campaign stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal. After the war Wilber became a farmer in Drexel and later retired in 1988 from the Bendix Corporation in Kansas City. His memberships include the Masonic Lodge, The American Legion, and The Veterans of Foreign Wars in Drexel and the First United Methodist Church in Wellsville. He enjoyed recreational flying, or as he called it joy riding, for many years. Survivors include: his wife Dorothy of Wellsville; 3 children, Rose Anna (Leonard) Ladage of Wellsville, NY. and Patricia (Richard) Sooter of North Richland, TX. and Terry (Linda) Willhoite of Monrovia, CA.; 3 grandchildren, Kenneth W. and Joshua W. Sooter and Angela Willhoite; 1 great grandson, Joshua Tiger Sooter; 2 brothers, David and Phil Willhoite as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: a sister Clara Lou Cooper and a brother Gordon Willhoite. Georgia N. Williams of Eugene, Oregon, formerly of Rich Hill, passed away March 1, 2008 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Georgia was born Jan. 24, 1923 in Papinsville, to the late Otto and Icie Williams. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewey Williams and John "Allie" Williams and three sisters, Virginia Fritts, Betty Murphy and Rosella Bise. She is survived by one brother, Billy Williams, Pinetops, NC and two sisters, Marjorie Smallwood, Osceola and Patsy Reed, Shawnee, KS. She is also survived by Marla and Troy Prentice, Eugene, OR and many nieces and nephews. Georgia graduated from the Rich Hill High School and worked at many restaurants before moving to Sterling, IL and then to Eugene OR. Georgia was a caring, gentle and compassionate lady who wanted to help and please everyone she met. She asked very little in return, just to be loved. She endured terrible pain but never complained. Memorial services will be held on March 22, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, Eugene, Oregon and at a later date Memorial services will be in Rich Hill, with burial in Green Lawn Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 12, 1916, in Valiant, Okla., to Henry Payne and Betty Stone Hackworth. She married Marion Jay (M.J.) Williams on Sept. 16, 1935, in Hot Springs, Ark. He preceded her in death on Oct. 14, 1999. Wanda was also preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

She was born March 2, 1914, in Nevada, to George Lee Kessler and Nellie Mae Nodurft Kessler. She was married Feb. 1, 1933, in Walker, Mo., to R.L. Willson and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2002. Mrs. Willson was born and reared in this area and spent virtually her entire life here. She was a member of the Metz United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and helped her husband for a lifetime on the farm. Anna Louise Wilson was born Nov. 20, 1906, in Russellville, Ala., the daughter of Edna Mae Collins and Charles Patrick Meroney. She passed away Monday Nov. 8, 1976, at the Menorah Hospital, Kansas City, Mo., at the age of 69. Before her health failed her she had been employed as a cook for the Kansas City Board of Education. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist church in Kansas City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred O. Wilson. She is survived by one son, Robert E. Wilson of Overland Park, Kan.; one nephew whom she raised, Richard Meroney of Leawood, Kan.; one brother, W. P. Meroney of Raytown, Mo. Two granddaughters and one great-grandson also survive. Margaret "Leona" Wilson, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2008, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. Leona was born Sept. 11, 1929, to John W. and Minnie Kay (Garner) Hood. She was born and raised in Rich Hill, Mo. She attended school in Rich Hill and retired from the state hospital in Nevada, after many years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Wilson, one son, William "Bill" Hood, and a son-in-law, Al Mealman. Her survivors include: her daughter, Cathey Mealman, of Walker; one son, Jimmy Wilson, of the home; and one daughter-in-law, Betty Hood, of Rich Hill; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held today at Heuser Funeral Home, in Rich Hill, Mo. Interment will follow at the Green Lawn Cemetery, in Rich Hill.

He was born May 17, 1926 in rural Bates County, Missouri the son of James Reuben and Mary Gladys Holt Wix. On September 21, 1950 Clark was united in marriage to Ava-Nell Camerer. Clark is survived by wife of 59 years Ava-Nell Wix of the home; sons Allen Wix and Douglas Wix and wife Tena both of Butler, Missouri and James Wix and wife Gina of Springfield, Missouri; daughters Sharon Harold and husband John of Enid, Oklahoma and Mona McDaniel and husband Wesley of Butler, Missouri; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Grace Lyon and husband Raymond of Ottuma, Iowa and Elsie Reimer and husband Wayne of Topeka, Kansas; and other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler, Missouri with burial in the Myers Cemetery near Appleton City, Missouri.

Michael Earl Wolfe, 48, Nevada, Mo., passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 5, 1958, in Nevada, Mo., to Earl Wolfe and Virginia Lee Garfield Wolfe. He was married to Kelly D. Moffatt on Nov. 23, 2001, in Nevada. Michael grew up in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School. He worked as a mechanic for Nevada Ford, Wysong Motors, Guthrie Motors and Nevada Auto Mall. He was retired due to his poor health. Survivors include his wife, Kelly, Nevada; two children, Christopher Wolfe and Cassie Wolfe, both of Nevada; one brother, John Wolfe, Raymore, Mo.; two nieces; one nephew; and two stepdaughters, Autumn and Whitney Moffatt. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Shaffall. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Sept. 21, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Committal will follow in Newton Burial Park.

Funeral services Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, Harrisonville, MO. Burial in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Harrisonville. Robert was born January 17, 1925 in Cass County, MO, the son of Robert Lee and Mary Milan (Stephens) Wood. He was a graduate of Archie High School. He was a life-long Cass County resident. Robert was a WWII Navy veteran. He married Jean Frances Hayes on June 8, 1946 at the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Harrisonville, by the Rev. Joe Brewster. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Robert worked for Bendix for over 38 years before retiring in December, 1990. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean on January 15, 2003, one brother, Willy Wood and two sisters, Anna Lee Collup and Eulah Reed. He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Taylor and her husband, Ron, Grandview, MO and Roberta Rasor and her husband, Tom, Bolivar, MO; four granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a sister, Jane Spunaugle, Marysville, Kan.; a brother, Dennis Worsley, Bronaugh; a daughter, Melissa Raper, Bronaugh; a son, Jason Callahan, Springfield; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Alma Jean Wright was born May 20, 1932, in New Home Township, Bates County, Mo., to Marshall H. Bennett and Victoria Pauline (Goodwin) Bennett. She died April 20, 2007, age 74, at the University of Kansas Medical Center after suffering a stroke three weeks earlier. Alma Jean grew up in rural Bates County, Mo., and in Independence, Mo., graduated from Rich Hill High School in 1950, and subsequently married Ervin Finis Wright of Lowry City, Mo., on Aug. 19, 1950. Throughout the remainder of their lives, they jointly farmed and ranched in the Ohio community of St. Clair County, Mo., located halfway between Appleton City and Lowry City. While still continuing to farm and ranch, they moved from the farm to a home in Lowry City in 1979, where Alma Jean resided at the time of her death. In addition to nearly 50 years working on the farm, Alma Jean also spent many years commercially transporting livestock to the Kansas City Stockyards and then spent several years as the Older Adult Transportation Service (OATS) driver in both St. Clair and Henry counties. To their marriage union were born two sons, Randy Ervin Wright, on October 1, 1952, and David Lee "Dave" Wright on January 2, 1962. Alma Jean took great pride in her role as "Mom" to her boys. Becoming "Grandma" to her only granddaughter, Lauren, who was born on August 16, 1991, was one of the greatest joys of her life. With Ervin's death on July 7, 1999, after a prolonged battle with cancer, she lost her life partner and the love of her life. Alma Jean was always very actively involved in the community through numerous organizations. As a young woman, she was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, holding numerous offices, including Worthy Matron. Throughout her life, she was actively involved in local politics, was elected committeewoman from her township for more than 20 years, and chaired more than her share of political potluck dinners and fundraisers. When her youngest son, Dave, entered high school, she became very actively involved in supporting the newly-formed Vocational Agriculture Program, FFA Chapter, FTA Chapter, and other school activities and events. She was a charter member of the Appleton City FFA Alumni and served as its first Vice-President during the late 1970s. She became known as "Mom" to both FFA and FTA members because she nearly always attended their field trips and activities as a chaperone and driver. She was recognized by the Appleton City FFA Chapter with the "Distinguished Service Award" and with the "Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree." In 1981, she was also recognized by the Missouri FFA Organization with the "Honorary State Farmer Degree." She was devoted to serving youth and to assisting the elderly throughout her life. Alma Jean was saved as a young girl and united with the First Christian Church of Rich Hill. In August 1996, she was rebaptized in the Osage River near Osceola, Mo., with her husband, Ervin, and they both joined High Hill Missionary Baptist Church near Osceola, where she continued to be a member at the time of her death. Alma Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin, and by both of her parents. She is survived by two sons, Randy Wright of Appleton City, Mo., and Dave Wright of Blue Springs, Mo., and one granddaughter, Lauren Wright of Blue Springs. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 26, at the Sheldon-Goodrich Funeral Home, Osceola, MO. Interment and graveside services followed at Lowry City Cemetery, Lowry City, MO.

Eula Maude Wright, 97, of Hume, Missouri, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Shawnee Gardens Health Care and Rehabilitation, Shawnee, Kansas. She was born December 16, 1911 in Bates County, Missouri, the daughter of Samuel and Emma Morgan Adams. She was married to Elmer Lee "Mike" Wright who preceded her in death on October 2, 1952. She was a member of the Hume United Methodist Church. Eula was preceded in death also by her siblings; Bill, Ruff, Roy, Lewis, Mattie, Gussie and Opal. Survivors include two daughters, Freda Reynolds and John of Bonner Springs, Kansas and Nora Lee Wright of Shawnee, Kansas. Graveside memorial services will be held at Friday, April 24th at the Hume Cemetery, Hume, Missouri.

He died July 27, 2006, at St. John's Hospital in Joplin. He was born in Independence, the son of J.E. and Mary Wright. He attended Branson Public Schools and worked in retail sales, including merchandising manager for Family Pharmacies. He was a licensed Evangelist for seven years in Rich Hill. He was preceded in death by his father, J.E. Wright, of Branson. Survivors include his wife, Debra, of the home; mother, Mary Wright, of Branson; son, Jason Wright, of Branson; stepdaughters, Heather Honeycutt, of Sedalia, and Amber Marshall, of Springfield; three step-grandchildren; and brothers, Roger and Rick Wright, both of Branson.

Melba Nore Wyckoff, age 84, of Nevada, passed away on Wednesday evening, Oct. 17, 2007, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, Mo. She was born Dec. 21, 1922, in Hume, Mo., to Walter Lee Hamblin and Elsie Mae Bozarth Hamblin. She was married to Keith V. Wyckoff and he preceded her in death in 1977. Nore was a longtime member of the First Christian Church, of Hume; a member of the Nevada Elks Club No. 564 and the Nevada Eagles Lodge No. 3770. She grew up in Hume, and graduated from school in 1940. Nore then went to work in Kansas City, Mo., in the aircraft industry for four years. She and her husband lived in Florida for 15 years before coming back to Kansas City, in 1958. Nore came to Nevada, in 1977 where she has lived ever since. Survivors include one daughter, Jackie Hoffman, and her friend, Jim Rider, Nevada; one son, Robert Wyckoff and his wife Louise, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Kim Stoddard and her husband, Travis, Lee's Summit, Mo., Brian Hoffman and his wife, Kimberly, Joplin, and Shane Wyckoff, Maryland; four great-grandchildren, Colton Hoffman, Hagen Hoffman, Adam Stoddard, and Matthew Stoddard. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, Michele Wyckoff in 1991, and one brother, Bob Hamblin. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Ferry Funeral Home. A private committal will be held at a later date.

Larry Raymond Wymore, 59, Nevada, MO` passed away Thursday, July 3, 2008, at St. John's Health System, Springfield, MO following a brief illness. He was born October 23, 1958 in Ottumwa, IA to Carl Raymond Wymore and Maxine Moore Wymore. He was married June 6, 1978 in Miami, OK to Shirley Ann Weddell and she survives of the home. Larry attended schools in Wright and Oskaloosa Iowa. As a child he attended the Assembly of God Church in Oskaloosa. He moved to Roscoe, MO in 1968. Soon after he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and completed his basic training in San Diego, CA. He served aboard the USS Yorktown and the USS Oriskany, both were aircraft carriers. During his time on the Yorktown, he crossed the Equator and he was on board the Yorktown during the recovery of the Apollo 8 space craft. He was on the Yorktown for a northern European cruise seeing several countries. While aboard the USS Oriskany, he received the Medal of Honor, for saving a shipmate during a fire in the engine room. Larry returned to Missouri after his honorable discharge from the Navy and worked at AC Feeds in Appleton City, MO. Larry came from a long line of truck drivers, and he has been driving a truck most of his adult life, following in his dad and brother's footsteps. He has worked for Pavolich Trucking for 17 years where he took great pride in his "black Cherry" trucks. Larry loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs and NASCAR. In addition to his wife Shirley, survivors include one daughter, Tammy Hendren and her husband Chris, Nevada, MO; four stepdaughters, Beverly Carpenter, Nevada, MO, Norma Bledsoe, El Dorado Springs, MO, Frances Carpenter, Ft. Scott, KS, and Sandy Corwine and her husband Rick, Amsterdam, MO; one stepson, Sonny Carpenter, Joplin, MO; 16 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Wymore, New Sharon, IA and James Wymore, Columbia, MO; one sister, Sharon Wright and her husband Jim, Lowry City, MO. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Evelyn West and Minnie Templeton, his grandfathers, Clarence Wymore and Benjamin Moore, his parents Carl and Maxine Wymore and one granddaughter, Kristin Rose Klumb. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 7, 2008, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO.
