VanBUSKIRK, Edmond Eugene
1925-2007

Edmond Eugene VanBuskirk, son of James Floyd and Elizabeth Kathleen (Carrier) VanBuskirk, was born in Rockville, Missouri August 27, 1925. He passed away November 28 2007 at St. Johns Medical Center in Joplin, Missouri at 82 years of age. Edmond lived in the Appleton City, Missouri area all of his life. On September 16, 1946 Edmond and Lois Jean Culbertson were united in marriage in Fort Scott, Kansas and to this union three children were born. He farmed and had worked as custodian at Montrose Public School for 16 years. He was Sunday School Director at the First Baptist Church for 35 years and retired as custodian for the church in August of 2005 after approximately 30 years of service. He held a membership at the Appleton City First Baptist Church and also the Church of God (Holiness). Mr. VanBuskirk dedicated his life to his family and The Church. He enjoyed baseball and liked listening to ball games on the radio. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Lois of Appleton City; his children, Shirley and husband Michael Gwin of Romayor, Texas, Linda and husband Steve Saia of Carl Junction, Missouri, and Terry VanBuskirk of Appleton City, Missouri; one sister Lavon and husband Jim Sommers of Loveland, Colorado; a brother-in-law Leon Culbertson and wife Anna; seven grandchildren: Shawn Gwin, Amy (Gwin) Smith, Matthew Dutton, Lindsay Dutton, Jeremy VanBuskirk, Corey VanBuskirk, and Jared VanBuskirk; and six great-grandchildren. Service: First Baptist Church in Appleton City, Missouri on Saturday, December 1, 2007. Interment: Appleton City Cemetery in Appleton City, Missouri. (Hill & Son Funeral Home, Appleton City, MO)

VANHOY, Mary S. REESE

Mary S. Reese, daughter of John and Emily Crumbaugh Reese, was born Apr. 18, 1867, in LeRoy, McLean County, Illinois, and died May 13, 1959, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mabel Dickison, in Butler, Mo. She moved with her parents when a small child, to Chilhowee, Mo. and at the age of 13 was converted and united with the church. Soon afterward she moved with her parents to Bates County, Missouri, near Spruce. She attended the Cumpton School and later the Butler Academy. After finishing school she taught three terms of school at Valley and one term at Cumpton. She married George M. VanHoy Nov 16, 1887, and to this union three children were born: Edna, who died at 22 months; John, a veteran of World War I, who died at the age of 36; and Mrs. Dickison before mentioned. Her husband preceded her in death July 30, 1912, after which she made her home with her daughter. Others who survive are four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. One grandson preceded her in death. She was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Church and as beloved by everyone who knew her. She leaves several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 16, at the Spruce Presbyterian Church. Interment was in the Radford Cemetery.

Bessie Lorene VanSlyke, 77, passed away on December 15, 2005 at Cass Medical Center. Services were held Monday, December 19 at the Atkinson Funeral Home in Adrian.

VanTYLE, Hazel C.

Hazel C. Van Tyle, 93 of Drexel, Mo., passed away July 9, 2008, at Louisburg Healthcare & Rehabilitation, Louisburg, Kan. Hazel was born May 19, 1915 east of Adrian, Mo., a daughter of Milton Warren and Clara Bell (Wier) McMeins. She attended cosmetology school in Kansas City, Kan., and married Clifford "Van" Van Tyle December 24, 1949. They were married one and one-half miles south of Drexel on a beautiful farm, and later honeymooned in Victor and Cripple Creek, Colo., where they later resided. After Hazel became homesick, they moved back to this area. Hazel owned and operated a beautician's shop in Rosedale, Kan., for many years. She will also be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, with whom she fell in love at the age of 16, four sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by her son, Steve Van Tyle of LaCygne, Kan., one brother, Wayne McMeins and wife Nora of Lee's Summit, Mo., and one sister, Bernice Angle of Adrian, Mo. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Chris and wife Paula Van Tyle of LaCygne, and Amanda Van Tyle of Overland Park, Kan., and one great-grandchild, Paytyn Elizabeth Van Tyle of LaCygne. Services will be Saturday, July 12, at the South Fork Baptist Church, Drexel. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, LaCygne, Kan.
