Wilbur Wiles Lacy, age 91 of Rich Hill, Missouri died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at his home in Rich Hill. He was born July 22, 1916 to Ray and Verna Chapman Lacy in Bates County, Missouri. Wilbur is survived by his wife, Alberta Lacy of Rich Hill, Missouri; two daughters, Patty Jacobs and Andrea Austin both of LaMesa, California; a stepdaughter, Cindy Steuck and husband Ron of Rich Hill, Missouri; two brothers, John Lacy and wife Catherine of Springfield, Missouri and Jim Lacy of Leawood, Kansas; two sisters, Norma Swope and husband Harland of Rich Hill, Missouri and Doris Basore of Pleasanton, Kansas; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Hazel; second wife, Carol Bradley; daughter, Barbara; stepson, Craig Brooks; a brother, George Ray Lacy; one sister, Dorothy Swope; and a granddaughter, Vicki.

Mr. Fay Howard LaFarge, 86, of rural Fort Scott, Kan., passed away Monday, July 31, 2006, at his home. He was born April 17, 1920, in Bloomfield, Neb., the son of Floyd Allen "Bud" and Ella L. Clark LaFarge. He married Edith L. Main, March 29, 1941, in Butler, Mo. Fay served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943-46 in the 93rd Bombardment Squadron. He moved to Bourbon County, Kan., in 1957, from Linn County, Kan., and has farmed all of his life. He was a member of Community Christian Church, and of the V.F.W. He enjoyed his farm, hunting, and his grandchildren. Fay is survived by his wife, Edith, of the home; a son, Duain Lafarge of Fort Scott; two daughters, Mrs. Randy (Arita) McAllister of Fort Scott, and Mrs. Mark (Karan) Headley of Reeds Spring, Mo.; a sister; Edna Herring of Hume, Mo.; eight grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and five great-grandsons. In addition to his parents, Fay was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Royer, Bonive Burrus, and Darlene Farrell; and two brothers, Rupert LaFarge and Buddy LaFarge. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Aug. 3, at the Community Christian Church, Fort Scott. Burial was at the Fort Scott National Cemetery.

Bruce D. Lane, 74 of Calhoun, Missouri, passed away July 6, 2008, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. Bruce was born November 25, 1933 in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, a son of Gilmor E. and Eva (Fletcher) Lane. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Western Electric and Westinghouse; he had also worked for Bendix. Bruce loved garage sales and visiting with people. He enjoyed collecting all sorts of things, particularly pictures. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; his children, Janette Paulson, Valerie Gentry, Brian Bicknell, Shelby Bicknell, Michael Bicknell, and Lisa Loe, and one sister, Shirley Lotze. He is also survived by his former wife, Mary Lane. Additional survivors include 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Mullinax Funeral Home, Drexel, Missouri. Burial will follow at Sharon Cemetery, Drexel.

He is survived by his wife, Mila Lawrence, one daughter, Mary Snowden and her husband, Lyn and one grandson, Shawn Snowden, all of Lee's Summit, MO.

Earl Eugene Lawton, 74, Rockville, was born June 11, 1930, in Lee's Summit, the son of Harold Donald and Edna (Shields) Lawton, and died at his home Wednesday, October 13, 2004. He was a Navy Veteran, serving from 1948-52. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1894 and American Legion Post 14, both of Clinton. On December 9, 1968, he married Lillie Mae Kirk in Deepwater. They lived in Deepwater until moving to Rockville in 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack Lawton and Robert Lawton, and one sister Hattie Harris. He is survived by his wife Lillie, of the home; one daughter Jessica Stover, Rockville; on son Walter Lawton and wife, Deepwater; two granddaughters, Anna Marie and Angela Mae Anderson, Clinton; three sisters, Dorothy Scovill, Raytown, Brenda Canturbury, Holden, Patricia Jenkins, Camdenton; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be Sunday, October 17, at Sheldon-Goodrich Chapel, Osceola. Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery.

Wilford Russel Lewis was born in Bates County, Westpoint Township, Missouri on November 19, 1927 to John and Leta Lewis and he went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2006 with his family by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Leta Lewis; sons, David Russell Lewis and Russel Reagan Lewis; brother, John Richard Lewis; sisters, Peggy Lou Lewis, Betty Jean Lacey and Jane Dykman, and brother-in-law Bill Gage. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Nancy Lee Lewis; four daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and John Lagerstrom, Peggy and Dr. Craig Helmstedter, Stacey and Dr. August Accetta and Mary and Mark Holmes; grandchildren, Jaime and her husband, Jason Armistead, Julie and her husband, Paul Billington, Jeanie Lagerstrom, Russell Helmstedter, Matthew Helmstedter, Joni Lagerstrom, Christine Accetta, Annie Jo Accetta, Abigail Holmes, Colton Holmes, Megan Accetta, Mason Holmes; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Jenna Billington; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas & Dee Lewis; sister, Alice Pitts; brother-in-law, Clifford Dykman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary "Missie" and E.J. After completing the 11th grade, Wilford joined the Navy in 1945 serving on the USS Laffey as a fireman and participating in the atomic bomb testing in the Pacific. After his discharge in 1947, he moved to California in 1948. His first job in Bakersfield was helping Jake Luttrell build a house. After meeting his wife, they made their home in East Bakersfield. He got his start in auto parts at Mears Auto Parts and then moved on to C & L in 1950. He worked various jobs until opening his own parts store in 1968 and retiring in 1981. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized in 1985. Wilford found many ways to serve the Lord including giving the choir a try. In the next chapter of his life, he divided his time between many hours of service at Sierra Christian Service Camp, coaching his grandchildren, playing softball with his brother-in-law, Bill Gage, the Silver Streakers, watching his grandchildren play sports, doing many handy-man projects and reading. Over the years Wilford's greatest joys were his wife and family, having his grandchildren close, his love of Country, hunting, going to the mountains and listening to "RUSH." But, in his own words, he "loved Jesus Christ the most."

Mrs. P. G. Lightfoot died at her home two miles north of Burdett on last Saturday morning after an illness of only a few days. Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist church Sunday. Her remains were laid to rest in the village cemetery. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.

Sherry Sue Logue Limpus, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away May 18, 2008, at her home. A "celebration of life" in honor of Sherry will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Lee's Summit, Missouri. Sherry, the daughter of Urson Charles Logue, Sr. and Harriet Seymour Morriss Logue, was born on September 21, 1948, at Butler, Missouri. Sherry grew up on the family farm at Archie, Missouri, where she graduated from Archie High School in 1966. Sherry attended the University of Missouri Columbia, graduating in 1970, with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. Sherry then worked as a buyer for Macy's, Stix, Baer, and Fuller, and Dillard's. In 1973, Sherry married Harlan Limpus, and their son Christopher Blaine Limpus was born in 1980. Later she worked for the Jackson County Election Department, and for 14 years Sherry was an account executive for CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services of Kansas City. Sherry was a friendly and loving person who is warmly remembered by family members and friends. She was active in many community organizations including serving as an Elder of First Presbyterian Church and as a Stephen minister, an advocate and speaker for Breast Cancer causes, and a member of Chapter LS, P.E.O. In recent years, she especially enjoyed visiting her house at the Lake of the Ozarks and visiting with her many new friends there. Sherry was a talented decorator and was skilled at making both her own surroundings and those of her friends and family warm and inviting. She especially enjoyed shopping and the "hunt" for interesting decorative items. For a number of years she marketed antiques at shops in downtown Lee's Summit. She was also known by her family for finding the "perfect" gift. Sherry is survived by her son, Christopher Blaine, a sister Linda Logue Zellmer, and her husband Fred, Freeman, MO; a brother Urson Charles Logue, Jr. and his wife Linda, Archie, MO; as well as nieces and nephews, Anne Zellmer Jenkins and husband Richard Duncan, Liberty; Lee Zellmer Mays and husband Darrell Craig, Louisburg, KS; Jason Charles Logue and wife Cristina, Pataskala, OH; Ryan Erwin Logue and wife Elizabeth, St. Louis, MO; and Jennifer Logue Bolton, and husband Wesley Blake Columbia, MO; a cousin, Wendell H. Patterson of Archie; great nieces and nephews Elizabeth Sophrona Mays, Madigan Claire Logue, Brayden Charles Logue, and Benjamin Thomas Mays.

Margaret was born April 8, 1914 in Princeton, MO, the youngest of eight children born to Bert Clifford and Ollie Belle (Mason) Shoemaker. She was a graduate of Hume High School. She married Sim Vernon Linn on August 12, 1933. Margaret worked for the Hume Border Messenger for 38 years, the Rich Hill Mining Review for nine years and served as the Howard Township Collector for 12 years. She was a 50-year plus member of the Adrian Crescent Hill Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Hume Baptist Church. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Sim, two grandchildren, three sisters and four brothers. She is survived by two sons, Sim Linn and his wife, Norma, Bob Linn and his wife, Shirley, all of Kansas City, MO and one daughter, Sarah Sleichter and her husband, Dennis, Kingsville, MO; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Another Old Citizen Gone. - Joseph Littlefield, one of Bates County's oldest and most highly respected citizens, is gone to his reward. He departed this life at 8:55 o'clock last night, at his home near Foster, aged 84 years and 11 months. Deceased had been a resident of Bates county for a great many years, and was well known throughout the western portion of the county. His death was due to a complication of diseases. He leaves his aged wife, three sons and five daughters, to mourn for him. The funeral will take place at the Salem church at Foster tomorrow afternoon at 11 o'clock, after which interment will be made in the church cemetery. The Sanderson & Wilson undertaker of this city will be in charge of the funeral.

Mary Evelyn Tinsley Littlefield, 84, Rich Hill, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, in Butler. She was born Nov. 29, 1919, the daughter of William A. Tinsley and Sophronia Cowger Tinsley, in Paris, Ark. She was married to Floyd L. Littlefield on June 26, 1940. She and her husband owned and operated the Farmer's Elevator and Lumber Co., in Hume, and a farm in the New Home community prior to retirement. She was a member of the Foster Christian Church, the Eastern Star Chapter No. 455 and the Foster Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; and one son, Stephen; her parents; six brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Sue Cain, Rich Hill; a son, Kenneth Littleton, Jefferson City, Mo.; a brother, Thomas Tinsley, Barling, Ark.; and five grandchildren. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 30, at Foster Christian Church, with Brother Bill Wallace officiating. Music will be provided by Kay Swickhamer, Ivaleen Wallace, Donya Bridgewater and the Bethany Mennonite Choir. Casketbearers will be Lee Taylor, Kenneth Taylor, Cyrus Nichols, Tom Querry, Vernon Botkin and George Parker. Antonia "Toni" Lowe, 84, of Harwood, Mo., passed away at her home on June 28, 2008. She was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Kiev, Russia, the daughter of Andrea Marveenh and Anna Stpanova Fedorhenko. Toni was 13 years old when she came home from school one day and was picked up by the Germans. She was put in a railroad boxcar and taken into Germany from the Ukraine by the Black Sea. Toni and her girlfriend escaped the prison camp and were hidden out on a farm until the war ended. At that time she became registered as a displaced person and the American government put these persons temporarily in a camp. While in this camp she met Roy Eugene Lowe at a dance. Gene and Toni were married in Germany on Sept. 7, 1946. To get married, it cost five gallons of gas for the car, driver and the party that lasted for a couple days. The newlyweds returned to the United States in March 1947. On their return route they went to Holland by train, then by boat to England to pick up 72 more brides and babies before heading to the USA. After arriving in America, they took a train from New York to St. Louis. From there, they boarded the "Katy" to Harwood. Toni and Gene spent more than 61 happy years together. For a few years they lived in Kansas City, but most of their life together was spent on the farm near Dederick. Suvivors include: Her husband, Gene, of the home; three sons, Billy Gene Lowe, of Tongonoxie, Kan., Eddie Dale Lowe, of Walker, Mo. and Jonnie Roy Lowe, of Shawnee, Kan.; and four grandchildren, David, Shelly, Amy and Sam. A private family viewing was held under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Dr. Robert Lynn "Doc" Lyle, D.V.M. of Bolivar, MO passed away Saturday, February 21, 2009 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was 85. "Doc" was an avid equestrian, raising, training, and showing Missouri Fox trotting horses. He was a 1951 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Veterinary Medicine and was a large animal veterinarian for many years in Appleton City, MO. He retired in 1986 as a Veterinary Medical Officer for the United States Department of Agriculture. Dr. Lyle was born February 12, 1924 in Butler, MO. He served in the U. S. Army 75th Infantry Division during the Belgian Bulge of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. and Addie B. Lyle, two sisters, and a granddaughter, Emily. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margie Lue (Chapman) Lyle; their daughters, Marilyn Pippin of Broken Arrow, OK; Linda and husband Charles Minor of Leawood, KS; Susan and husband Kelly Stacy of Hartford, CT; their son, Robert and his wife Debi Lyle of Orlando, FL; his sister, Betty Noe of Independence, MO; six grandchildren, Matt and Todd Stacy, Katie Pippin, and Lauren, Logan and Paige Lyle. "Doc" was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Humansville, MO, the Bolivar Saddle Club, the Missouri Fox Trot Horse Association, and the Mid-American Fox Trot Association. He was also an ardent Missouri Tigers Football and Basketball fan. Graveside Funeral Services will be Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Fairview Cemetery, Butler, MO. Martha Emily Lyman, age 88 of Butler, Missouri died Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Willow Lane Nursing Center in Butler, Missouri. She was born February 19, 1920 to Jesse Cleveland and Lula Klista Bright Mullies in Foster, Missouri. Martha is survived by two sons, Gary Lyman and wife Diana of Raymore, Missouri and Gilbert "Gib" Lyman and wife Sylvia of Butler, Missouri; a daughter, Klista Graham of Garden City, Missouri; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norman in 1979; a brother, Gilbert Armour; and three sisters, Mary Ellen, Helen and Lucille.

LYTER - Blanche Lyter, age 95, formerly of Butler, Missouri, died September 13, 1993 at Barry County Care Center in Cassville, Missouri. She was born March 28, 1898 to Ulysses Grant and Minnie Myrtle Morris Blankenship in Corsicana, Missouri. Blanche, one of eight children, moved to Bates County at an early age where she lived in the Altona Community. She graduated from Gem City Business College in Quincy, Illinois and worked as a stenographer for Lowe and Campbell Sporting Goods in Kansas City, Missouri, 1925 to 1940. She married Herbert A. Lyter on May 27, 1940 and to this union, one daughter was born. They lived several years in Lansing, Michigan, before moving to Missouri in the 1960's where her husband preceded her in death on May 22, 1964. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Butler. Blanche is survived by one daughter, Gloria Jean Henson and husband, Dale, of Cassville, Missouri; one brother, Oscar Blankenship and wife, Fay of Adrian; four granddaughters of Cassville, Susan Madison, Lori Banks, Karen Beagle, and Marla Shore and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services were Wednesday, September 15, 1993 at the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel in Butler. Burial was in the Altona Cemetery, Adrian.

Martha Blanche (Reedy) Lytle, 92, Butler, passed away on April 14, 2008, at the Bates County Memorial Hospital. Martha was born in Walker, October 13, 1915, to Samuel Jay and Martha Lela (Mitchell) Reedy. Martha was a member of the DOES KC Drove 74 and served as the president in 1974. She was a member of the "Get Together's" Club in Butler. Martha started working for Sears in 1942. In 1948 she went to Chicago, IL, and worked for Montgomery Wards. She moved back to Kansas City in 1950 and started working for Sears again in 1951 until her retirement in 1978. In 1970, Martha was united in marriage to Ralph Lytle. Ralph and Martha bought their home in Butler in 1979, and spent 22 years together until his passing. Martha is survived by her six sisters: Grace Smith, Butler, Bonnie Rutherford, Roy, UT, Sarah Hart, Paul, ID, Jewell Ellerman, Harwood, Nellie Shaw, El Dorado Springs, and Betty Pearcy, El Dorado Springs; one brother, Elmer Reedy, West Linn, OR; and many nieces and nephews. Services were held Saturday, April 19, at the Underwood-Brandtonies Funeral Home, Butler. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler.
